Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer
We are seeking to establish a pool of Aboriginal and Islander Education Officers (AIEOs) for permanent and fixed‐term, full‐time and part‐time vacancies at Collie Senior High School (SHS) from 2026 through the end of Term 2 2027.
Role
At Collie SHS the AIEO plays a crucial role in fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment for our Indigenous students. As a liaison between the school and community, the AIEO works closely with teachers, students, and families to develop culturally relevant education programmes that empower Indigenous students to reach their full potential. The AIEO also provides mentoring and pastoral care, particularly for students at risk, and collaborates with the local Indigenous community to shape school policies and programmes.
To work with us, you must:
* Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or have a valid visa with the relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
* Obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start.
Qualifications & Selection Criteria
* Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the histories, languages, social and cultural protocols of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples.
* Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of culturally responsive strategies that support the wellbeing, engagement and learning of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
* Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, parents/caregivers, teachers, and community members to assist teachers in understanding students' needs.
* Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of building culturally safe environments for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
* Demonstrated effective organisational skills to support the delivery of culturally responsive education programmes and to provide feedback and evaluation to teachers or allied health professionals.
