About Our Client

Our client operates within the reinforcing steel supply sector, supporting building and construction projects across Australia. The role is based in Prestons, NSW, with responsibility for supporting the Glendenning site and broader operations. It forms part of a People and Culture function that works with operational leaders, employees, payroll, advisors and union representatives. The position will support two group businesses and provide a point of contact for managers requiring guidance on workplace matters.

Our client is continuing to develop its People and Culture systems, policies, training resources and document management processes. This creates an opportunity to contribute to the next stage of the function while working within an organisation that recognises service and supports employee wellbeing.

About the Opportunity

The Senior People & Culture Advisor is a hands‐on role responsible for delivering operational and advisory support across a portfolio of approximately 150 employees. Reporting to the Group People and Culture Manager, you will partner with managers, guide People and Culture Advisors and act as an escalation point for workplace matters.

You will:

* Build relationships with managers, employees and union representatives
* Lead employee relations, industrial relations, and case management matters
* Develop a 12‐month People and Culture plan, policies, and training
* Manage recruitment, onboarding, probation and exit processes
* Improve systems, documentation and service delivery

You will provide advice across the employee lifecycle, including performance management, grievances, investigations, disciplinary action, workforce planning and policy application. You will interpret awards, enterprise agreements, contracts and legislation, prepare employment documentation and support consultation and bargaining processes.

The role will provide scope to establish working relationships, strengthen advisory capability and contribute to projects such as the rollout of SharePoint. The position suits someone seeking job satisfaction through ownership, team guidance and measurable improvements.

About You

We are seeking a People and Culture practitioner who can provide advice, manage workplace matters and support managers in a unionised operating environment. You will be able to balance compliance, business requirements and employee outcomes while coordinating competing priorities.

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

* A tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business or a related discipline
* At least three years of HR experience at a senior level
* Knowledge of Australian employment law, the Fair Work Act, awards and enterprise agreements
* Experience managing investigations, grievances, underperformance, disciplinary action and terminations
* Experience with union engagement, consultation and enterprise bargaining
* Mentoring HR team members and acting as an escalation point
* Experience with recruitment, workforce planning, training and policy development
* Written communication skills for correspondence, reports and employment documents

You will have worked with objectives relating to stakeholder engagement, policy education, recruitment lifecycle management and process improvement. Employment will be subject to a medical assessment and drug and alcohol testing.

What's on Offer

This role provides the opportunity to take ownership of a People and Culture portfolio while contributing to the development of the wider function. You will work with a Group People and Culture Manager who will support your introduction to the business, with ongoing assistance available from team members in NSW and WA.

The position offers exposure to employee relations, industrial relations, union engagement, recruitment, workforce planning, policy development and project delivery. You will also have the opportunity to guide advisors, support managers and influence how People and Culture services are delivered across operations.

Our client recognises employee service through milestone events and provides access to an employee assistance programme for employees and their families. The business is also reviewing options to expand its employee benefits offering. For someone seeking a role with ownership, continuity and scope to improve systems and practices, this position provides a platform to contribute over the longer term.
