Yawoorroong Miriuwung Gajerrong Yirrgeb Noong Dawang Aboriginal Corporation (MG Corporation) was established in 2006 to receive and manage the benefits transferred under the OFA to the MG People, who are recognised under Australian law as holding Native Title over large areas in the North of Western Australia's east Kimberley region.

MG Corporation seeks to achieve a healthy, wealthy, and culturally strong MG community. MG Corporation supports evidence-based social and community development projects that generate positive social and economic outcomes for MG people.

About the role

As the Female Transition Coach, you will guide, mentor, and support young people aged 17–21 as they transition from out‐of‐home care to independent living and adulthood, reporting directly to the Home Stretch Coordinator.

In this role, you will assist young people to access supports and resources available through extended care arrangements, provide tailored, culturally safe, and strengths‐based case management and coordination, and work collaboratively with key stakeholders including Department of Communities staff, foster families, carers, kin, community members, and other significant people in the young person's life.

Duties
* Demonstrate knowledge of contemporary issues in Aboriginal culture, in the context of kinship, community and the community services sector.
* Work flexibly, on an outreach basis, to provide quality individualised support incorporating approaches that are:
o Culturally safe
o Strengths based
* Provide regular, individual mentoring and coaching to young people to support them to develop the skills, connections, and self‐confidence they require to achieve independence and stable living arrangements.
* Assist young people to find and maintain safe and stable housing, exploring a broad range of options within a young persons' natural networks, community housing and private/public housing opportunities.
* Develop and/or maintain strong cultural connections.
* Find and maintain appropriate education, training, and employment opportunities.
* Find and maintain stable accommodation.
* Access services relevant to meet their individual needs.
* Increase their knowledge and skills to transition to independence.
* Access recreational and social networks in the community to build connectedness and social support.
* Access Invest in Me Brokerage Funding.
* Provide strong advocacy for young people with stakeholders.
* Work respectfully and in partnership with key internal and external stakeholders.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with Department of Communities to strengthen referral pathways for young people.
* Deliver accurate information about Homestretch to prospective young people and Department of Communities' staff and other out-of-home care service providers.
* Interview and assess young people who have been referred to Home Stretch to build a holistic understanding of their support needs.
* Attend and participate in team and staff meetings, including presenting cases for consultation and discussion.
* Contribute to the development/improvement of effective systems and practice that will better support and enable young people.
* Maintain a strong commitment to the principles that underpin the service model and ensure that young people's experiences and expertise informs the refinement and roll‐out of the model.
* Deliver services and supports within a strengths building model that reflects best practice for Aboriginal children and young people in care.
* Participate in meetings and training that contributes to the overall success of the team and organisation.
* Participate in regular supervision with Line Manager, including annual performance reviews.
* Develop, build, and maintain relationships across the organisation.
* Be a strong advocate for Aboriginal children, families, and culture – supporting and honouring self‐determination.
What you will need
* Must have full working rights in Australia.
* Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and the ability to work with Aboriginal young people, communities, and families.
* Demonstrated experience in engaging and building strong relationships with and motivate 'at risk' Aboriginal young people.
* A thorough understanding of the barriers and difficulties facing Aboriginal young people with experiences of out of home care.
* Ability to be innovative and flexible, work independently, demonstrate initiative and work effectively under pressure.
* Ability to assist Aboriginal young people to develop independent living skills.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Organisational skills in order to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively.
* Up to date knowledge of resources in the youth services field, including education, training and employment.
* Understanding of youth housing and accommodation systems.
* Demonstrated behaviour management, conflict resolution and advocacy/negotiation skills.
* Demonstrated skills in safety management and dynamic risk assessment.
* Ability to work in a team and to work collaboratively with others.
* Good understanding of drug and alcohol and mental health issues and support services.
Qualifications & Licences
* Provide / undergo a National Police Clearance.
* Provide / undergo a Working with Children (WWC) Check.
* Satisfactory Department of Communities (DoC) Departmental Check (Departmental Record Check & Criminal Record Check).
* Current Drivers Licence and the ability to travel in response to organisational needs.
Package

$44.58 per hour + superannuation and leave loading.

Housing is not included in this role and it would be the responsibility of the applicant to secure housing prior to start date.
