Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Liaison Specialist
We are seeking a dedicated professional to deliver culturally safe healthcare for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women in the community. This role is essential in ensuring culturally appropriate care, particularly for Women's Business, while advocating for patients and their families.
This position involves working within a small team, providing a cultural and liaison link between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients, their families, and external agencies and health services.
The key responsibilities include:
* Liaising with clinical areas in adopting an interdisciplinary approach to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and their families accessing healthcare through Mater hospitals
* Communicating and working alongside patients and their families from diverse backgrounds and geographic locations for the purpose of supporting them in the lead up to, during, and following their hospital or healthcare experience
* Providing person-specific cultural advice and support to individual patients and other clinicians providing direct care
* Inputting to sustainable organisation-wide strategies, policies, and programs relating to healthcare for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians
* Advocating for the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and their families accessing healthcare at Mater hospitals as well as those being admitted from and discharged into other service provider organisations
* Liaising with external agencies and communities with regard to improving the quality and continuity of care delivered to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients
About You
To be successful in this role, you will possess the following:
* Demonstrated understanding of the barriers of access to healthcare experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
* Knowledge of and experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities
* High level interpersonal, communication, presentation, adult education, and negotiation skills in order to liaise effectively and build relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders
* Understanding of and commitment to work within the mission, ethos, and values of the organisation
* Ability to function as a team member, maintain confidentiality, creatively problem solve, work with minimal supervision, effectively time manage, and be flexible in order to meet organisational objectives
* Knowledge of or experience working in healthcare settings
* High level of commitment to principles of privacy and confidentiality
