Position Information

About the Role

Full Time - Senior Psychologist, Education

Location: Huntingdon Public School FTE and Albury West Public School FTE

Base school relocation can be negotiated if required. For clarification, please contact the panel convenor.

The Senior Psychologist Education - School Counselling and Telepsychology Rural and Remote Schools (SCATRRS) provides high quality psychological services to rural and remote NSW schools, including communities impacted by serious incidents. They work closely with schools, other members of educational services teams and external agencies to improve student learning and wellbeing outcomes. Part of the success of the program is the ability of the SCATRRS SPEs to offer a blended model with a required component of school visits and face to face work. Telepsychology is an important feature of this service.

Senior Psychologist Education will not be required to teach or undertake teaching duties as defined by the Teacher Accreditation Act 2004 as amended.

NOTE : Recreation leave and flexible working hours

The Senior Psychologist Education is employed under the Government Sector Employment Act 2013, remunerated for 52 weeks per annum and required to work for 48 weeks with 4 weeks recreation leave. Requests for recreation leave may not be approved during school term time and the Senior Psychologist Education is required to work during the student vacation period unless on a form of approved leave. Requests to take flex days in accordance with the Department’s Flexible Working Hours Agreement will be considered subject to the operational requirements of the school and are generally only approved during the student vacation periods.

Key Accountabilities

- Provides counselling and psychological services to students, individually and in groups, including appropriate short term therapeutic interventions undertaken within the constraints of their training, experience and supervision
- Engages with and implements the procedures of the Qualified Practice Framework for the NSW School Counselling Service
- Works in consultation with the principal, school executive, staff and student support services to improve student learning and wellbeing outcomes and implement current departmental priorities
- Contributes to the social, emotional, and academic development of students, and supports schools and students with complex behavioural needs
- Administers cognitive, social, emotional and behavioural assessment of students, reports on the results of assessments and interventions and collaborates to improve learning, wellbeing and mental health outcomes
- Works collaboratively with learning and support teams, parents and carers, and other agencies, to develop appropriate school based support for students
- Responds as part of a team to assist schools experiencing serious incidents
- Refers students and / or their families and carers to other agencies that will support the development of student health and wellbeing outcome

In addition, your employment may be subject to the Department’s National Criminal Records Check to determine your suitability for employment.

Note : The selection process will include a range of assessment techniques to assist in determining your suitability for the role.

Targeted Question 1

Describe a situation that demonstrates your capacity to lead, support and professionally develop school counselling staff, including those working towards registration as a psychologist.

Targeted Question 2

Provide examples demonstrating your high level knowledge and skills in the provision of psychological assessment, counselling and evidence based interventions within a school context.

Targeted Question 3

Provide examples demonstrating your capacity to establish interagency partnerships to assist schools to meet the wellbeing and mental health needs of students, in particular those students needing psychological intervention and support.
