INTERIOR DESIGNER – (Specialising in Lighting Integration) Location: Alexandria, NSW Full-time | Permanent Salary: $70,000 – 85,000 ABOUT THE ROLE About Space is seeking an experienced Interior Designer (Specialising in Lighting Integration) to join our design-led showroom team in Alexandria. This is a permanent, full-time role focused on providing tailored lighting design services across residential and commercial projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating concept designs, developing lighting layouts, and preparing technical documentation that integrates interior design principles with About Space’s extensive lighting product range. You will collaborate with clients to understand their spatial needs and design intent, while also providing detailed product recommendations, presentation documents, and lighting-focused layouts that align with project budgets, compliance requirements, and aesthetic outcomes. This is a specialised Interior Designer position (ANZSCO 232511), where lighting integration forms a key part of broader interior design duties including spatial planning, material selection, and design documentation. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Interpret and develop interior design concepts in response to client needs, functional goals, and spatial conditions. • Ensure compliance with design briefs, building codes, safety regulations, and environmental considerations. • Conduct showroom and on-site consultations with clients to obtain design briefs and project objectives • Develop concept designs including lighting layouts, colour palettes, finishes, and fixture placement • Interpret spatial layouts and optimise lighting integration to enhance functionality and visual impact • Prepare detailed floorplans, elevations, and lighting schedules using AutoCAD, Revit, or SketchUp • Select and specify suitable lighting products aligned with aesthetic, budget, and compliance goals • Prepare mood boards and design documentation to communicate design intent to clients and stakeholders • Provide accurate technical documentation and specifications for quoting and installation • Liaise with the internal manufacturing team to support feasibility of custom lighting solutions • Collaborate with sales consultants, lighting designers, project managers, and external specifiers • Maintain knowledge of lighting and design trends, sustainability principles, and relevant codes SKILLS & EXPERIENCE • A bachelor’s degree or diploma in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or related discipline • Minimum 2–4 years’ professional experience in an interior design role, preferably with experience in interior design for architectural or lighting-integrated focus. • Demonstrated ability to create lighting-focused design documentation and spatial layouts • Strong proficiency in design software including AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite • Strong understanding of lighting principles including layering, visual comfort, and colour temperature • Experience working directly with clients, builders, or developers on interior and lighting design solutions • Knowledge of workplace strategy, safety regulations, and Australian design standards • Excellent visual communication, documentation, and presentation skills WHY JOIN ABOUT SPACE? • Proudly Australian brand with national presence and local manufacturing capability • Design-led culture that encourages innovation, quality, and customer impact • A diverse team passionate about lighting, interiors, and pushing boundaries in design • Opportunities to work across high-end residential, commercial, and retail projects • Collaborative team environment with training, growth, and career development Apply today to join our Alexandria team and bring bold lighting design to life.
