Job Description How you’ll make a difference.
Play a leading role in the delivery of mechanical engineering solutions for underground copper and gold hard rock mining projects. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, you will apply advanced engineering expertise across the full project lifecycle, from concept and trade‑off studies through to detailed design, commissioning support, and operational readiness.
You will act as a key technical leader within a multidisciplinary consulting team, taking ownership of complex mechanical engineering scopes associated with underground and surface material handling systems, fixed plant infrastructure, ventilation systems, dewatering systems, and associated mining infrastructure typical of hard rock metalliferous mining operations.
Lead the development and delivery of mechanical engineering design packages for underground mining and material handling projects in accordance with Australian Standards, client specifications, and applicable mining legislation;
Perform conveyor system design and analysis using Sidewinder and Belt Analyst Conveyor Design Software, including conveyor sizing, power calculations, dynamic analysis, transfer chute design coordination, and design optimisation;
Apply formal bulk solids handling and flow principles to the design of bins, chutes, feeders, transfer stations, and ore handling systems to ensure reliable operability and maintainability;
Develop engineering calculations, equipment specifications, datasheets, scopes of work, technical evaluations, and design reports for mechanical systems and equipment;
Lead the design and integration of crushing, screening, conveying, pumping, dewatering, dust management, and ventilation systems associated with underground and surface mining operations;
Coordinate multidisciplinary interfaces including civil, structural, electrical, process, and geotechnical requirements to deliver integrated engineering outcomes;
Conduct technical reviews, risk assessments, HAZOPs, constructability reviews, and design verification activities;
Liaise directly with clients, vendors, project managers, and site personnel to manage technical deliverables, resolve engineering queries, and support project execution;
Qualifications The qualities that help you thrive
Demonstrated ability to independently deliver complex mechanical engineering scopes with minimal supervision
Strong first‑principles engineering capability across materials handling, bulk solids flow, rotating equipment, fluid systems, and fixed plant infrastructure
Deep understanding of underground hard rock mining operations and the practical constraints associated with designing for confined, remote, and high‑risk environments
Strong technical capability in conveyor design, transfer chute design, and bulk materials handling systems
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage effectively across multidisciplinary project teams;
Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering recognised in Australia – Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or working toward chartership highly regarded
Minimum 8–12 years of mechanical engineering experience
As an Equal Opportunity Employer, we believe in each person’s potential, and we’ll help you reach yours.
