About the Role
The Teacher Librarian plays a pivotal role in advancing the College's vision to integrate library services into the daily academic life of the school. Working closely with key academic leaders, you will create meaningful opportunities for boys to engage deeply with literature, inquiry and scholarship. This is an exciting opportunity for an innovative educator and library professional who is passionate about fostering reading engagement, supporting research excellence and creating dynamic learning experiences that inspire young people.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead whole‐school and targeted initiatives that strengthen reading culture and boys' engagement with literature.
* Design and implement evidence‐informed reader development programs across the Middle and Senior Schools, while building alignment with successful Preparatory School initiatives.
* Develop innovative reading promotion strategies, book clubs, recommendation systems and literary communities.
* Support reluctant readers through targeted interventions informed by student voice, data and observation.
* Collaborate with English staff and academic leaders to enhance reading engagement, comprehension and disciplinary literacy.
* Develop and deliver a compelling annual calendar of literary experiences.
* Coordinate author visits, workshops, residencies, festivals, book launches and student‐led literary events.
* Build strategic partnerships with authors, publishers, libraries, literary organisations and educational institutions.
* Ensure all programmes are high‐impact, well‐executed and aligned with College priorities.
* Collaborate with teachers to support inquiry learning and research‐based assessment tasks.
* Deliver workshops and lessons in research skills, information literacy, academic integrity and critical evaluation of sources.
* Empower students to become confident, ethical and independent researchers.
About You
* Relevant tertiary qualifications in Education and/or Library and Information Studies.
* Teacher Librarian qualifications or accreditation (preferred).
* Experience in school library practice, including collection development, procurement and resource management.
* A proven ability to build reading culture and successfully engage diverse readers, particularly boys.
* Experience planning and delivering events, author programmes, workshops and literary initiatives.
* Strong understanding of inquiry learning, information literacy and ethical research practices.
* Outstanding communication, relationship‐building and organisational skills.
* A commitment to the Christian mission, values and educational philosophy of The Scots College.
