As an SES volunteer, you will be trained to assist the community in coping with natural disasters including storms, cyclones, earthquakes and floods.
As a member of the Bunbury SES Storm Damage & Search & Rescue Team, your activities may include:
Key Responsibilities
* Responding to natural disasters and emergency situations to support the community.
* Providing assistance to other emergency services, including WA Police, Ambulance and bushfire brigades.
* Participating in community education, public relations, and awareness activities.
* Supporting the ongoing readiness and operational efficiency of the unit.
Key Tasks
* Conducting temporary repairs to houses damaged by storms, floods, vehicle accidents, fallen trees, etc.
* Assisting in flood, earthquake, tsunami, or bushfire response efforts.
* Helping police with searches for missing persons.
* Supporting bushfire operations and other emergency incidents.
* Operating flood boats where required.
* Assisting in incident management control rooms including communications, logistics, operations, and support roles.
* Contributing to non-operational unit maintenance to ensure efficient operational response.
* Developing specialist skills in areas of personal interest.
* Providing assistance for interstate disaster response when opportunities arise.

Time Required
Bunbury SES trains weekly on Monday evenings. Probationary members are expected to attend at least 75% of sessions during their 3-month probation. After probation, minimum attendance applies, with flexibility possible. Members are asked to be available for callouts, sometimes at short notice, while maintaining work-life balance. Occasional weekend training and exercises occur throughout the year.
Training
Basic training is required before attending incidents, with specialist courses available. Some weekend training is needed, and ongoing skill development is expected. All training is provided at no cost.
