About the role
The Maternal Foetal Medicine Sonographer provides specialised ultrasound services supporting high‐risk pregnancies within the Midwifery Unit at Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital. You will play a key role in clinical decision‐making through accurate imaging, interpretation and reporting, and collaborate closely with obstetricians, midwives, radiologists and other clinicians. Established escalation pathways to tertiary MFM services at John Hunter Hospital support complex care.
In addition to clinical responsibilities, you will contribute to service development, quality assurance, audits, protocol optimisation and continuous improvement initiatives. The role also includes mentoring and clinical guidance for junior sonographers, medical officers and midwifery staff, while supporting efficient workflow coordination and accurate patient documentation. The position has no direct reports, but provides clinical leadership within the service and reports to the Midwifery Manager Grade 3.
A structured orientation and ongoing support will assist you in the transition into the role, including senior clinical support, case review, education, multidisciplinary learning and continuing professional development. Additional training in maternal foetal medicine can also be supported to further develop subspecialty expertise.
