Shaw Contracting is seeking a motivated Business Development Engineer to join our Business Development team in Launceston.
This role is ideal for a technically minded engineer who enjoys analysing designs, solving problems, working with data, and completing tender preparation—while still wanting clear pathways into on-site engineering, project delivery and future project management roles.
You'll gain exposure to the entire project lifecycle: from estimating and bidding, through to project commencement planning—giving you a strong foundation for a long-term civil engineering career.
About the Role
As a Business Development Engineer, you will:
Interpret drawings, specs and scope to support accurate estimating and tender development.
Contribute engineering insight into methodology, buildability and cost-effective delivery.
Assist with tender handover and support project teams during job commencement.
Work closely with the Tender Manager and Business Development Manager to help secure new work.
Use modern digital tools (Excel, AI tools, PowerPoint/Canva/InDesign) to create high-quality technical content, visuals and analysis.
Build foundational relationships with engineers, subcontractors, suppliers and delivery teams.

What We're Looking For
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (or related discipline)
2–5 years' post-graduation experience (graduates encouraged to apply)
Strong analytical skills and interest in cost modelling, drawings, methodology and problem solving
Curiosity and willingness to learn estimating, digital tools and business development processes
Confident communication and teamwork skills
The ability to manage competing priorities during tender deadlines
White Card and driver's licence
