We're looking for a hands‐on and highly organised Operations Workshop Supervisor to serve as the critical link between Operations and the McCosker plant department and third‐party plant suppliers at the project site. This is a unique, site‐based role that sits within the Operations Department and ensures mobile plant is available, operational, and ready to support the project.
Reporting to the Project Manager, you'll work closely with the McCosker Plant Department, third‐party plant suppliers, site leadership and workshop teams to coordinate maintenance activity, manage plant availability, manage operations‐supplied consumables and ensure compliance of the onsite maintenance activities with McCosker and client processes and procedures.
This position will support a 2‐week on / 1‐week off roster at the Carmichael Coal Mine; travel and accommodation provided. The role is based in Mackay, Queensland, Australia.
Responsibilities
* Act as the primary coordination point between the Plant Department and the Operations team at site, ensuring clear, timely communication flows in both directions
* Coordinate with the site workshop teams on plant availability and reliability at the project site, maintenance schedule, equipment status, and prioritising reactive work to minimise downtime
* Work closely with the plant suppliers (both internal and external) and site workshop teams on planned maintenance, procurement, and mobilisation of resources to site
* Maintain oversight of all mobile plant and equipment on site, tracking service schedules and reporting, and compliance requirements
* Identify and solve problems quickly, anticipating plant demands, addressing delays, and finding practical solutions that keep the project moving
* Build and maintain strong working relationships with project supervisors, plant personnel, and subcontractors to align maintenance activity with operational priorities
* Ensure all workshop activity on site meets McCosker's safety, environmental, and quality standards, and that documentation is accurate and up to date
* Champion a positive safety culture, actively monitoring site safety practices and driving continuous improvement
Experience and Skills
* Trade qualification in mechanical, diesel fitting or equivalent engineering discipline
* Current Queensland Open Driver Licence and White Card required
* Demonstrated experience in workshop maintenance and plant coordination in the civil construction industry on mine sites
* Strong background in maintenance scheduling, personnel supervision, and plant operations
* Experience working across departmental boundaries, able to build trust and communicate effectively with both operations and workshop teams
* Skilled problem‐solver who can respond quickly and confidently to shifting priorities and plant demands
* High level of organisation with the ability to manage multiple workstreams, track outstanding work, and follow through
* Strong communicator with the confidence to influence outcomes and build effective relationships across all levels
