Role Overview
The award‐winning Townsville Bulletin is seeking a Community Editor with a strong news sense and the ability to build community connections to help deliver an exciting new project for the masthead. We are looking for an enthusiastic aspiring newsroom leader who can build rapport with a wide range of people and deliver engaging content that matters to the audience.
Responsibilities
* Oversee the sourcing and creation of compelling content for digital and print.
* Drive a content strategy that engages new audiences and connects with existing readers.
* Manage news, event and content planning.
* Engage with community groups and leaders and develop a reliable network of relevant local contributors.
* Represent the brand within the community.
* Work under deadline pressure in a fast‐paced newsroom environment.
Qualifications
* Exceptional news judgment and networking skills.
* Extensive reporting, editing and social media experience.
* Solid print and digital experience and ability to drive audience growth.
* Strong communication skills and knowledge of an extensive range of topics.
* Willingness to embrace change and demonstrate agility in a fast‐paced sector.
* Self‐starter who can maintain high levels of personal organisation and time management and balance priorities.
* Ability to build community connections and advocacy for the region.
Contract
This is a 12‐month contract with the possibility of becoming permanent.
