Location: Open to all NSW locations, with preference for Queanbeyan, Armidale, Dubbo, and Coffs Harbour.
Salary: Clerk Grade 11/12 – $149,739 to $173,174 per annum (FTE) plus super and leave loading.
About the Role
The Leader Genetics plays a key leadership role within NSW DPIRD's Extensive Livestock and Pastures branch, working collaboratively with other leaders in the field to drive the department's research, development, and adoption (R,D&A) program for extensive livestock industries across NSW.
In this role you will provide strategic direction and operational leadership across the Genetics portfolio, ensuring the successful delivery of impactful research programs that support industry innovation, productivity, and sustainability outcomes. You will lead a high‐performing team, oversee complex projects and partnerships, and contribute to shaping the future of livestock genetics and genomics research in NSW.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide strategic direction for the Genetics portfolio.
* Lead and manage a team of up to 12 direct reports.
* Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of research, development, and adoption projects.
* Build and maintain collaborative partnerships with research organisations, industry stakeholders, government agencies, and funding partners.
* Drive the adoption of innovative genetics and genomics solutions across NSW livestock industries.
* Identify emerging opportunities and develop strategic initiatives in a changing research environment.
Qualifications & Skills
* Degree or postgraduate qualification in agriculture or a science‐based discipline.
* Current driver's licence.
* Demonstrated experience in leading, mentoring, and supervising professional and technical staff.
* Solid knowledge of genetics, genomics, and livestock genetics.
* Proven experience managing complex research, development, and adoption programs.
* Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
* Strong strategic thinking and problem‐solving capabilities.
* Mandatory compliance with pre‐employment probity screening.
