Charterhouse is working with a leading upper-tier law firm to assist in the appointment of a Senior Associate to its high-profile Competition team in Melbourne. The firm is also open to engaging a Senior Associate or Counsel-level practitioner, where the candidate brings appropriate seniority and top-tier experience. This is a rare opportunity for a senior competition specialist to join a market-leading practice acting on Australia’s most complex and high-stakes matters across merger control, enforcement, litigation, and regulatory compliance. The Role The successful candidate will work closely with nationally and internationally recognised partners and will be responsible for: Advising on merger clearance, authorisations and informal merger processes before the ACCC and other regulators Managing or supporting major regulatory investigations, including cartel and misuse of market power allegations Providing strategic advice on competition and consumer law compliance Supporting litigation and enforcement defence in complex competition proceedings Advising on sector-specific regulation, including in energy, telecommunications, and financial services This role will see you engaging with major corporates, industry bodies, and global clients, often in multi-jurisdictional settings. You'll also have the opportunity to mentor junior lawyers and contribute to business development and thought leadership initiatives within the group. About You You are a Senior Associate (or a Counsel-level lawyer) with substantial experience in competition and consumer law at a top-tier or global law firm You bring strong technical capabilities in both advisory and contentious aspects of competition law You are commercially astute, strategically minded, and comfortable working directly with sophisticated corporate clients Strong academic credentials are expected, and an LL.M. or economics background would be viewed favourably Why This Role?
