About The Role

The State Director provides strategic leadership to advance Ageing Australia's policy, advocacy and reform agenda across the state/territory. Reporting to the GM Sector Strategy, this role builds influential relationships with government, members and sector stakeholders to strengthen Ageing Australia's voice, visibility and impact across the aged care sector.

Key Responsibilities

* lead state-based advocacy and stakeholder engagement aligned to national strategy
* build trusted relationships with government, regulators, members and sector leaders
* work with members and ensure sector insights inform policy, advocacy and reform priorities
* represent Ageing Australia in forums, committees and strategic discussions
* identify emerging risks, trends and opportunities impacting the sector
* partner with national teams to deliver coordinated advocacy and engagement
* support sector reform initiatives and strengthen Ageing Australia's influence nationally
* provide strategic advice, briefings and leadership across state activities

About You

* success in senior leadership roles involving strategy, advocacy, stakeholder engagement or system reform
* ability to influence ministers, senior bureaucrats and system leaders
* strong strategic thinking, problem-solving and analytical capability
* political acumen and experience navigating state government and institutional systems
* understanding of relevant state policy domains including health, ageing, housing, workforce, regulation and community services
* exceptional communication, negotiation and relationship management skills
* experience leading teams and uplifting organisational capabilityexperience working in aged care, health, social services or related sectors (highly regarded)
* commitment to Ageing Australia values and a genuine passion for aged care
* relevant tertiary qualifications in public policy, political science, health, social sciences, law, or related fields (postgraduate qualifications are desirable)
* significant senior experience in government, advocacy, policy, system leadership or peak body environments (8+ years)
