Project Accountant role at BAE Systems Australia
BAE Systems Australia is looking for a Project Accountant to join our Maritime team. The successful candidate will support the CSI‑IPT Finance Lead in establishing and maintaining robust financial functions, ensuring the integrity and transparency of all financial data for effective planning, decision‑making, and governance across the CSI‑IPT. The role is based at our Mawson Lakes or Osborne Shipyard offices in Adelaide and supports mobilisation activities including process and reporting set‑up.

Principal Accountabilities
- Prepare and review consolidated monthly project reporting, variance reporting versus prior forecasts and budgets.
- Support and review Contract Change Proposals (CCPs) and Sub‑contract Change Proposals (SCPs) pricing.
- Prepare and review project reconciliations.
- Assist in the preparation and review of the Project Annual Budget and Long‑Range Plan.
- Manage Tasking Statement TCE/cost models.
- Conduct analytical review activities for reporting and planning, ensuring accuracy and integrity of all financial information presented to support informed decision‑making.
- Oversee monthly project invoicing activities and quarterly true‑ups.
- Maintain project indices for escalation and de‑escalation calculations and reporting.
- Contribute to project risk management processes, including maintenance of finance‑related risks in the risk register.
- Provide ad‑hoc assistance and analysis to the Senior Accountant CSI‑IPT, and Estimating and Pricing Manager CSI‑IPT as required.
- Improve and develop financial and project‑related processes and governance.
- Ensure compliance with corporate guidelines, policies, procedures, accounting standards and legislation.
Key Criteria
- Degree qualification plus professional CA, CIMA or CPA qualification.
- A curious mind with critical thinking skills and willingness to challenge the status quo.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, adaptable to audiences at varying organisational levels.
- Previous experience working in a project environment (highly regarded but not essential).
- Well‑developed self‑management skills and demonstrated ability to work independently to deliver outputs on time and to quality.
- High literacy and numeracy skills.
- MS Office skills, especially in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and Australian International Framework of Reporting Standards (AIFRS).
- Exposure to Oracle ERP or similar desirable.
- Defence security clearance is required. Applicants must be Australian citizens and either possess or be eligible to obtain and maintain appropriate clearances.
