The Opportunity This is a rare CFO appointment within a growing, privately backed boutique asset manager specialising in private credit and private equity funds, across various real estate classes. Newly created and genuinely broad in scope, this role sits at the intersection of technical fund accounting, regulatory compliance, and strategic investment partnering. You'll lead a small finance team in Sydney and work alongside the leadership team and Investment Committee. You’ll contribute meaningfully to deal structuring, leading taxation and regulatory compliance. The CFO here is a trusted partner to the business, with a real seat at the table. What You'll Be Responsible For Full financial management of multiple managed investment schemes, including NAV calculations, trust accounting, and investor distributions. Lead all tax compliance activities including GST, BAS, income tax, and distribution calculations, across all managed funds. Primary responsibility for AFSL compliance obligations, including NTA monitoring and ASIC/AUSTRAC reporting. Management of SPV structures - working with the executive team and external advisors to design and implement tax-effective fund structures. Oversight of the monthly and quarterly financial reporting cycle for the Board and fund investors. Strategic partnering with the executive and investment team on capital management, structuring, and growth. Managing relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies. Maintaining a robust internal controls and AML/CTF compliance environment. About You You're a CA or CPA-qualified finance professional with 10 years of experience, ideally with significant exposure to funds management, private debt, real estate capital. You'll stand out if you have: Hands-on experience in managed investment scheme (MIS) accounting and trust accounting. A solid understanding of AFSL obligations and the compliance requirements that sit underneath them. Exposure to SPV structuring and the tax considerations that come with sophisticated fund structures. Experience managing compliance for both domestic and international investors. The ability to operate at board level, presenting clearly, influencing confidently, and translating technical complexity into commercial language.
