We are seeking a skilled Senior Veterinarian (Pathology) to join the Biosecurity Sciences Laboratory. In this key role, you will provide expert diagnostic insights and lead complex disease investigations to support Queensland's animal health and biosecurity preparedness. Your work will contribute to the detection and management of priority animal diseases through surveillance, diagnostics and response activities.
Biosecurity Queensland plays a leadership role in the biosecurity system, collaborating with stakeholders to protect the state and Australia from plant and animal pest and disease threats. As a Senior Veterinarian (Pathology), you will help protect Queensland's animal health and support market access through high‐quality veterinary diagnostic services.
Responsibilities
* Apply specialist veterinary pathology skills to diagnose and respond to animal diseases, supporting surveillance and market access outcomes.
* Build strong relationships with stakeholders and colleagues to enhance collaboration, service delivery, and scientific excellence.
* Mentor and support a high‐performing team; contribute to professional development and readiness for emergency response activities.
* Handle livestock and operate a 4WD; prior field experience with animal welfare and disease investigations is highly regarded.
* Demonstrate a positive attitude, effective time‐management, strong attention to detail, and problem‐solving skills.
* Participate in emergency response activities and be available for an on‐call roster as out‐of‐hours work.
Qualifications
* Degree in Veterinary Science from an Australian university or recognised equivalent.
* Current or eligible registration with the Queensland Veterinary Surgeons Board.
* Post‐graduation qualification in veterinary pathology or ANZCVS membership or Diplomate ACVP.
* Vaccination or immunity to Q fever, rabies and Japanese encephalitis; commitment to obtain vaccination or provide evidence of prior vaccination before starting.
