About The Benevolent Society

At The Benevolent Society, we believe every person deserves to live life on their own terms, with dignity, respect and a sense of belonging. For over two centuries, this belief has shaped who we are and how we work. We are a not‑for‑profit, independent and non‑religious organisation committed to reconciliation and diversity.

About this Role

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled professional to join our multi‑disciplinary team in supporting vulnerable families through targeted early intervention services, comprehensive assessments and tailored interventions.

This role involves conducting in‑depth risk and needs assessments, delivering services that promote healthy child development, strengthening caregiver‑child attachment, enhancing safety, and fostering meaningful connections that set up foundations for better outcomes across the early years.

Responsibilities

* Engage children, young people, adults and/or families using current assessment and risk minimisation processes.
* Plan, develop, facilitate and review supported playgroups, transition‑to‑school programs, Preteen programs and workshops relating to service delivery.
* Work with clients to conduct comprehensive assessments, identify strengths and areas of risk, develop and implement tailored support plans, and provide ongoing case management, home visits and reviews; ensuring children and young people are actively engaged throughout the process.
* Collaborate proactively with a broad network of service providers, including government agencies, educational systems, healthcare services, general practitioners, and allied health professionals.
* Prepare and submit child protection reports to the relevant helpline when concerns are identified, ensuring mandatory reporting obligations.
* Facilitate home visits, review meetings, case conferences, worker and consultation meetings and ensure appropriate documentation is kept.
* Ensure precision in record‑keeping and a proactive approach to compliance with organisational protocols and reporting standards.
* Participate in internal and sector‑wide interagency meetings as needed to foster collaboration, share insights, and support coordinated service delivery.

Our Advantages

* Salary benefits – You can package up to $15,900 pa of your pre‑tax salary to pay for everyday expenses before income tax is calculated.
* Work/Life Balance – Flexible work arrangements, including hybrid home/office options.
* Recognition and Reward – Sector‑competitive remuneration, various recognition programmes and access to long service leave after 5 years.
* Wellness – Fitness passport, Employee Assistance Program and additional leave opportunities.
* Professional Development – Tailored career development opportunities for all employees and volunteers.
* Reconciliation Commitment – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees are entitled to up to 2 paid days plus up to 10 unpaid cultural leave days, and opportunities for cultural and professional development.

Qualifications & Experience

* Degree qualified in social work, early childhood, teaching, community welfare or similar. Diploma qualification with a minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience may also be considered.
* In‑depth experience working with children and families facing multiple and complex challenges, including vulnerability in areas such as parenting, education, and life skills.
* Strong understanding of child development (0‑12 years), attachment theory, and relational dynamics, with knowledge of how trauma can disrupt emotional wellbeing and family functioning.
* Experience supporting families facing domestic and family violence, visa insecurity, financial hardship, social isolation, and mental health challenges through culturally responsive, strengths‑based approaches.
* Demonstrated commitment to cultural humility and inclusive practice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, CALD communities, and LGBTQIA+ individuals.
* Ability to identify children and young people at risk and report child protection concerns in line with legislation and organisational policies.
* Strong commitment to accurate, thorough, and timely documentation and record‑keeping.
* Current driver’s licence and willingness to drive a van or pool car.

If you identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, we strongly encourage you to apply. The Benevolent Society recognises and values cultural knowledge and wisdom of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
