The Opportunity

Safe Places for Children are looking for passionate Senior Youth Workers and Residential House Managers to work directly with young people who are vulnerable and in need of assistance.

You will be the person in their lives to help them build life skills, healthy attachments, and most importantly be there for them when they need you the most. You will work through tough times and challenges together, knowing that the ultimate outcome is guiding them to live a fulfilled and independent life.

Advocating for a young person's sense of belonging while encouraging their independence is a deeply rewarding career path.

Travel around the Brisbane region will be essential for this role.

This role is for full-time employment and requires availability across 7 days. We operate a roster of a minimum of 5 x 24-hours shifts per fortnight - Youth Workers, this is scaled back for Case Managers.

Essential requirements

11. A minimum 2 years' experience working with children with challenging behaviours, such as verbal and physical aggression, in a residential setting or in care
12. Ability to do shift work and in-home sleepovers
13. Ability to accommodate roster changes and on call requirements at short notice. We endeavour to complete rosters up to two weeks in advance, though changes may occur due to the nature of the work.
14. Ability to participate in team meetings, staff meetings, training and supervision, as required.
15. Successful completion of relevant history checks and screening processes.
16. A full Australian Driver's License or ability to obtain one.

Essential skills and attributes

17. Knowledge of issues facing children in the out-of-home care sector, the impact of childhood abuse and trauma, and crisis management techniques
18. Understanding of case management model in the residential care setting
19. An understanding of the intensive nature of working with young people and the possible impacts on the employee's family and personal responsibilities
20. Ability to work autonomously in an isolated environment, supported by established procedures
21. Ability to supervise team members and establish effective team processes and systems
22. Computer-literate, including demonstrated ability to independently use key programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel, internet browsers and ability to support youth workers in using these tools
23. Ability to complete reports and other business processes via web-based systems
24. Strong written and verbal communication skills including negotiation, networking, and ability to draft shift reports
25. Strong organisational and time management skills

The successful applicant will have:

26. Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention or equivalent
27. Experience in Case Management and Residential House Management
28. Experience managing teams of youth workers
29. Experience managing a house and rosters
30. Current Blue Card (Working with Children Check)
31. Australian Drivers Licence
32. Full Working Rights in Australia
33. A positive and resilient attitude
