About HomeCare Australia
At HomeCare Australia, we are dedicated to delivering high-quality, person-centred care that empowers individuals to live as independently as possible. We specialise in aged care and disability support services, tailoring our approach to meet each client's unique needs. Our team is made up of compassionate professionals who are genuinely committed to making a positive difference.
About the Role
We are currently seeking a patient and compassionate Disability Support Worker to provide community access support for a male client living in Supported Independent Living (SIL).
This role focuses on building trust, supporting social engagement, and ensuring safety during community outings. Initially, support will be low-pressure and relationship-focused, with gradual progression to more structured community access.
About the Client
Our client lives with Schizophrenia, Intellectual Disability, and Hypercholesterolemia. He can present as child-like at times but has strong comprehension and awareness.
The early stages of support will focus on rapport building through simple, calming activities such as watching movies and short walks. As trust develops, this will progress to outings in quiet environments like parks.
Key Responsibilities
* Build Trust & Rapport – Engage in calm, low-pressure activities to establish a strong working relationship
* Community Access Support – Assist with safe and structured outings to parks and quiet community spaces
* Ensure Safety at All Times – Client must never be left unattended; remain aware of potential flight risk if distressed
* Promote Wellbeing – Encourage hydration and prompt toileting during outings
* Provide Reassurance – Offer physical reassurance (e.g. arm support) when navigating lifts, stairs, or escalators
* Maintain Calm Environments – Avoid crowded or overstimulating settings
What We're Looking For
* Experience in disability and/or mental health support (highly regarded)
* A patient, calm, and empathetic approach
* Ability to build trust gradually and follow individual support plans
* Strong awareness of safety and risk management
* Reliable and committed to consistent weekly shifts
Essential Requirements
* NDIS Worker Screening Check
* First Aid & CPR Certificate
* Valid Driver's Licence & reliable vehicle
* Working With Children Check (Blue Card) – preferred
