This business specialises in the production of high-quality trailers, truck bodies, and custom-built units, and is seeking someone who is hands-on, safety-focused, and eager to grow their skills.
About the Role
As a Trade Assistant/Workshop Hand, you will play a crucial role in supporting tradespeople, fabricators, and assemblers with day-to-day workshop operations. You'll contribute to the smooth running of the workshop by assisting in fabrication tasks, maintaining equipment, handling materials, and ensuring a clean and safe working environment.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys practical work, has basic mechanical or fabrication knowledge, and is keen to develop their skills within a supportive team.
Key Responsibilities
Workshop Support & Fabrication Assistance
* Assist tradespeople with cutting, grinding, drilling, and preparing materials.
* Support assembly of components to ensure correct fit and finish.
* Safely operate basic workshop tools and machinery.
* Load, move, and position materials using safe manual handling techniques.
Equipment & Tool Maintenance
* Maintain workshop cleanliness and ensure tools are well organised.
* Perform routine checks and basic maintenance on hand tools and machinery.
* Report damaged or unsafe equipment immediately.
Material Handling & Inventory
* Receive, unpack, and store materials and consumables.
* Deliver materials to fabrication areas as required.
* Assist with stock control and notify supervisors of shortages.
Quality & Safety
* Follow all safety procedures and always use required PPE.
* Keep work areas tidy and hazard-free.
* Assist with quality checks during and after assembly.
* Report safety concerns or incidents promptly.
Continuous Improvement
* Follow and contribute to improving standard operating procedures.
* Support new manufacturing processes and product improvements.
* Participate in training and upskilling opportunities.
About You
* Basic understanding of mechanical, metalworking, or fabrication processes.
* Confident using hand tools and small machinery (grinders, drills, saws, etc.).
* Physically fit with the ability to safely perform manual handling tasks.
* Reliable, punctual, and committed to workplace safety.
* Strong communication skills and a team-first attitude.
* Willingness to learn and take direction from senior staff.
