Our Client is a leading family owned Australian steel & plastic fabrication business delivering high-quality proprietary products to the rural and industrial sectors across Australia and the USA. With strong growth across Australia & overseas, our client is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead their operational teams.
About the Role
Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Operations Manager will oversee daily manufacturing operations, production efficiency, safety performance, workforce leadership, and continuous improvement initiatives across our production facilities. A solid understanding of how different parts of the business overlap, an ability to multitask and an attention to detail are essential.
This is a hands‐on leadership role suited to a strong operational leader with experience in manufacturing or fabrication environments.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead day-to-day manufacturing and production operations
* Drive operational efficiency, productivity, and cost control initiatives
* Manage production planning, and workforce scheduling
* Ensure compliance with company WHS, quality, and environmental standards
* Scheduling and order co‐ordination – fulfill promises made to customers
* Develop and mentor supervisors, production teams, and operational staff
* Implement continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives
* Monitor KPIs relating to safety, quality, delivery, and production output
* Collaborate with engineering, supply chain, and commercial teams
* Support capital projects and operational expansion activities
Skills & Experience Essential
* Proven experience in operations management within manufacturing, or fabrication, environments
* Strong leadership and people management capability
* Internal Customer Advocate
* Attention to detail
* Experience managing production targets, operational budgets, and KPIs
* Sound understanding of safety systems and manufacturing compliance
* Excellent communication and problem‐solving skills
Desirable
* Experience in steel processing or fabrication operations
* Lean Manufacturing / Six Sigma experience
* Experience with a small but growing business
* Ability to maintain the business status quo while making steady business improvements in the future
* Engineering, Manufacturing, or Operations Management qualifications
* Hands on approach
* Exposure to ERP/MRP systems
