Curtin University invites applications for a Cyber Security Specialist to join our growing cyber security function in a hands‐on advisory role supporting a large and evolving technology environment.
This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys working in the grey – someone comfortable navigating change, solving emerging problems, and helping shape cyber security outcomes in a complex organisation.
You'll work across a broad range of cyber security initiatives spanning risk, advisory, cloud, third‐party security, governance, and stakeholder engagement. No two weeks will look the same.
This role would suit someone who has already built a solid foundation in cyber security consulting, GRC, or cyber risk and is looking for the next step in their career within a mature enterprise environment.
Key Responsibilities
* provide practical cyber security advice and risk guidance
* support security reviews and third‐party assessments
* contribute to cyber uplift initiatives and projects
* help embed security thinking into technology and business decisions
* work with a broad mix of technical and non‐technical stakeholders
Selection Criteria
We are interested in people who are naturally curious and proactive, enjoy ambiguity and fast‐moving environments and can operate independently without heavily defined processes.
You're probably in your second or third cyber role and looking to accelerate your growth through exposure to a large and diverse environment.
Additionally, you will have:
* Experience working in cyber security, technology risk, or security advisory roles
* Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
* Ability to balance security, usability, and business outcomes
* A foundation in cyber security frameworks, risk, and governance principles
* Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or industry certifications (e.g., CISSP, CCSP, CISM, CRISC, Microsoft SC-200, SC-401, AWS CSAA, or other vendor security certifications)
Role Requirements
* As this is a fixed‐term contract, you will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role
* Willing to undertake a National Police Clearance, and background, integrity, and reference checks to Curtin's satisfaction
* Ability to work outside of normal office hours when required
What We Offer You
This fixed‐term role attracts a remuneration of $119,125 - $126,950 (G08) + 17% superannuation.
Situated on Whadjuk Nyungar Country, our vibrant Bentley campus includes an art gallery, gym, childcare and medical centre, bus station, accessible parking and a multitude of food options including a supermarket. Apart from the vibrant campus life, we offer a wide range of generous benefits, including additional leave, salary packaging, health and wellbeing services and an array of discounts for retail, travel and much more.
Curtin has recently completed a major digital transformation and continues to evolve its cyber security capability across cloud, identity, governance, and enterprise platforms including AWS, Microsoft, and ServiceNow.
You'll join a collaborative and forward‐moving environment where you'll have the opportunity to contribute meaningfully, work with experienced professionals, and gain exposure across a broad cyber landscape.
