About the Role
Central West Local Land Services are looking for 3 x Biosecurity Officers within our Animal Biosecurity & Welfare team to undertake field and regulatory activities which support programs and advisory services for the management of animal biosecurity for the region as well as undertake surveillance and investigation activities as they relate to animal and disease control.
Responsibilities
Undertake NLIS compliance inspections of saleyards within the Central West LLS
Undertake regulatory compliance work
Complete Council waste depot inspections and swill feeding audits
Assist District Veterinarians with animal health investigations as required
Provide advice and support to ratepayers, livestock agents and stock owners
Assist with operational projects including animal and plant biosecurity surveillance activities and disease investigations
Support new and emerging biosecurity issues incidents and emergency responses (biosecurity floods, fire)
About You
These are hands on practical roles for people who love working with livestock but will also need the ability to complete regulatory compliance action regularly.
Must be willing and prepared to learn.
The role carries responsibility and as such you'll need to be motivated, honest, reliable and trustworthy - someone who can build strong professional relationships with land holders and businesses.
You'll need to be able to follow procedures and processes and be able to quickly develop and maintain a working knowledge of the legislative and regulatory requirements related to the role.
An interest in animal health and demonstrated hands on and practical livestock handling skills is a must.
An agricultural background as well as an understanding of plant and animal pests and diseases, stock and station agents and saleyards is ideal.
Qualifications and Skills
Biosecurity Officer accreditation or willingness to obtain
Authorised Control Officer status under the Biosecurity Local Lands Servies and Public Spaces Act
Capacity to hold a NSW firearms licence
Current NSW Driver Licence and willingness to travel (including overnight stays as required)
