About The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Building Services Engineer to join a growing, design‑focused consulting team delivering large, technically complex projects across Australia. You’ll work on high‑value commercial developments (often $250M+), spanning commercial, education, health and advanced data and digital infrastructure. The role offers end‑to‑end ownership of mechanical design, from concept through to construction support, with a strong focus on technical leadership and quality outcomes.
You’ll engage directly with clients and multidisciplinary teams, contributing to key project decisions and delivering robust, buildable solutions. There is also exposure to high‑performance and data‑driven environments, including energy optimisation, analytics and operational efficiency initiatives.
As part of a growing design division, this role provides the opportunity to influence technical standards, delivery approaches and mentoring, with scope for senior engineers to help shape the direction of the broader team.
You Can Expect To
Lead and deliver complex mechanical building services designs from concept through to construction support
Take ownership of mechanical design packages, ensuring quality, coordination and compliance
Provide senior technical input and guidance across HVAC system selection, calculations and plant sizing
Act as a key technical and client‑facing contact, attending meetings and providing clear engineering advice
Review and support the work of other engineers, contributing to technical assurance and mentoring
Work across a range of large, complex projects, including high‑performance and technically demanding environments
Contribute to performance‑driven design outcomes, including energy efficiency and optimisation initiatives where applicable
Support continuous improvement of design processes, standards and delivery approaches within the team
Essential What you’ll bring:
Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) and ACT Professional Engineers Registration Scheme (PER) registration
Minimum 8-10 years’ experience in mechanical building services engineering within a consulting environment
Proven experience delivering medium to large‑scale projects, ideally across commercial, education, health or similarly complex sectors
Strong involvement across the full design lifecycle, from concept design through to documentation and construction support
Demonstrated ability to lead and take ownership of mechanical design packages, including coordinating inputs and providing technical direction
Strong HVAC design capability, including system selection, load calculations and plant sizing
Strong working knowledge of Australian Standards and NCC requirements, with the ability to apply them confidently to complex projects
Experience using industry‑standard design and documentation tools (such as Revit, CAMEL or similar)
Comfortable acting as a senior technical contact, including direct engagement with clients and project stakeholders
Must be Australian citizens and hold, or be willing to obtain, an AGSVA Security Clearance
Desirable
Experience working on data centre, high‑performance or mission‑critical projects
Exposure to operational buildings, refurbishment works or performance improvement initiatives
Familiarity with building performance initiatives, such as NABERS, energy modelling or BMS optimisation
Experience mentoring and supporting junior engineers and contributing to team capability
