Offer description

A well-established engineering organisation with a strong and growing project portfolio across rail, transit, energy, and data centre sectors is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join its in-house design team in Perth.

The business designs, fabricates, and delivers modular electrical infrastructure solutions for clients across Australia's critical infrastructure sectors. This is a hands-on design role with genuine end-to-end ownership, from initial concept and calculations through to factory acceptance testing, as-built documentation, and final project handover.

You will work directly alongside drafting, fabrication, and project delivery teams in a collaborative environment where your designs are physically built and commissioned. This is not a consultancy role, the work is tangible, the feedback loop is short, and you will have direct exposure to senior leadership throughout.

Reporting to the Design and Engineering Manager, you will lead the electrical design of modular equipment rooms and power infrastructure systems. Your deliverables will be detailed and construction-ready, not concept-level, and will be required to meet Australian Standards alongside project-specific technical requirements across a diverse client base.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Design

* The core of this role is producing detailed, buildable electrical designs. You will develop and own:
* Single line diagrams, schematics, control and protection diagrams
* Equipment layouts, cable routing schemes, earthing systems, and lightning protection designs
* Engineering calculations including cable sizing, voltage drop, fault level analysis, protection coordination, earthing, illumination, and UPS sizing
* Equipment selection and specification: switchgear, transformers, UPS systems, batteries, distribution boards, cabling, and associated infrastructure
* Technical specifications, equipment datasheets, and bills of materials

Design Coordination and Integration

You will be the electrical point of contact for multidisciplinary coordination across the project team:

* Collaborate with in-house drafting teams to develop and review engineering drawings
* Coordinate electrical designs with mechanical, structural, fire, civil, and communications disciplines
* Identify and resolve interface and clash issues during the design phase, before they become fabrication or construction problems
* Maintain drawing registers through to issued-for-construction and as-built status with a high standard of accuracy

Documentation and Compliance

Engineering documentation in this business is thorough and traceable. You will be responsible for:

* Preparing, reviewing, and maintaining MDRs, ITPs, CERs, test records, and as-built packages
* Ensuring designs comply with relevant Australian Standards and project-specific technical requirements at every stage
* Reviewing construction and fabrication documentation against design intent
* Supporting factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT) activities
* Responding to technical queries from workshop and site teams
* Contributing to quality assurance processes and continuous improvement initiatives

About You

* Bachelor\'s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline recognised by Engineers Australia.
* 3–5 years of post-graduate experience in electrical design within industrial, infrastructure, utilities, rail, energy, or data centre environments.
* Proven experience performing electrical design calculations including cable sizing, voltage drop, fault studies, earthing, and protection coordination.
* Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or AutoCAD Electrical.
* Strong understanding of relevant Australian Standards.
* Experience preparing and managing engineering documentation and technical records.
* Ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary project teams.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Full Australian working rights.

Advantageous

* Experience in rail, transit, data centre, energy, or modular infrastructure projects.
* Familiarity with utility network or transport authority requirements.
* Experience using electrical analysis and design software.
* White Card and relevant site inductions.

Why This Role

* Salary package up to $150,000 + Super.
* End-to-end project involvement from design through to delivery.
* Diverse portfolio of infrastructure projects across multiple sectors.
* Supportive and experienced engineering team.
* Direct exposure to senior leadership and decision-makers.
* Modern facilities and strong engineering culture.
* Long-term career growth within a growing organisation.

If you're an Electrical Engineer looking for greater ownership, technical variety, and the opportunity to see your designs brought to life, we'd love to hear from you.
