Responsibilities
The Materials Engineering Group is responsible for materials safety, strategy, and sustainability with ResMed’s product development groups globally. We focus on continuous adaptation and improvement to maximize value.
The Materials Technology and Compliance team collaborates with stakeholders to provide materials engineering consultation and bring materials science into daily practice.
As a Senior Materials Engineer, you will lead cross-functional collaboration for critical material decisions and support product compliance, transforming complex data into impactful business insights.
You will thrive in a fast-paced, agile environment, offering creative solutions, building a positive team culture, and influencing senior stakeholders.
You will lead innovation to improve processes and support team development, mentoring junior staff.
Responsibilities include conducting complex material risk assessments, designing and implementing material characterization tests (e.g., FTIR, DSC, TGA, SEM, EDS, mass spectrometry), and participating in root cause investigations.
You will prepare scientific documentation, support material selection decisions, and ensure compliance with standards and regulations (REACH, ROHS, Prop 65, EU-MDR).
You will analyze product compliance, develop processes for regulatory adherence, and communicate with regulatory bodies as needed.
You will seek opportunities for continuous improvement and foster a positive, inclusive team environment.
Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in materials engineering, chemical engineering, polymer engineering, polymer chemistry, mechanical engineering, materials science, or related field.
At least 5 years of experience in the medical science field or similar.
Strong knowledge of polymers and rubbers, with hands-on experience in material characterization techniques.
Experience in product development lifecycle and project management.
Preferred: Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.), 8+ years in regulated medical device environment, knowledge of high-volume manufacturing, FDA QSR, ISO, ASTM standards, and experience with regulatory bodies.
