The Role:
We are looking for a junior‑mid PHP/Backend Developer to maintain and build web applications integrated with marketing automation platforms such as Oracle Eloqua and Braze. This role suits someone with strong logical problem‑solving skills, a solid grounding in server‑side programming, and the curiosity to learn how data flows through modern marketing technology stacks. You’ll work across a range of exciting industries – including sport, entertainment, tourism and retail – developing internal tools, APIs, and customer‑facing application features. This is a growth role where you will gain hands‑on experience with cloud environments, data integrations, marketing automation platforms, and opportunities to expand into Python or AI‑driven features over time.
This role is ideal for an early‑career developer who has a solid foundation in backend programming and is eager to deepen their skills in real‑world applications. The perfect candidate enjoys solving complex problems, learning how systems integrate, and working hands‑on with modern cloud environments and marketing technology platforms. You may have experience from university, personal projects, or an entry‑level role, and are now looking for a position where you can gain exposure to production systems, APIs, and martech platforms. This role suits someone who thrives in collaborative environments, takes pride in writing clean and reliable code, and wants to grow into a well‑rounded backend engineer.
Qualifications and Experience:
Degree or certificate in Web Development, Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
Robust understanding of server‑side programming (PHP preferred, open to other backend languages).
Experience working with cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS.
Familiarity with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL), including query optimisation, indexing and performance tuning.
Understanding of version control (Git) and modern development workflows.
Experience working with or integrating third‑party APIs.
Ability to read, understand, and extend existing codebases.
Ability to troubleshoot production issues using logs, error traces and API responses across cloud environments.
Strong attention to detail and problem‑solving skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Passionate about delivering high‑quality user experiences.
The right to full‑time employment in Australia (no temporary permit holders will be considered).
We’re also looking for (but is not essential):
Understanding of networking fundamentals including authentication, secure key management, outbound IP/NAT routing and common API security patterns.
Exposure to Python or an interest in expanding into AI/ML projects.
Interest in Martech systems, marketing automation, or CRM integrations.
