The Disability Division
The Disability Division brings together policy, practice and strategy, to enhance the inclusion and participation of Western Australians with disability by playing a key role in contributing to national disability policy and provider and practice reforms led by the Australian Government.
About the Team
You will be part of the Policy and Reform Directorate, which is responsible for can:
* Leading development of statewide policy, such as the State Disability Strategy
* Providing policy support to the service delivery functions
* Leading legislative reform
* Leading the response to national disability reform, such as the Disability Royal Commission
The Opportunity
As Senior Legislation Officer you will play a key role in the review, development and implementation of legislation administered by the Department of Communities and relevant to people with disability in Western Australia. In addition to a significant external focus, the position involves effective stakeholder engagement, the development of submissions and briefings, with a focus on relevant federal and state legislation and the broader disability reform agenda and the considerations and impact for the disability community and sector.
Responsibilities
* Evaluates and analyzes policy proposals to amend existing legislation or create new legislation administered by the Department of Communities or relevant for people with disability in Western Australia.
* Prepares Cabinet submissions, drafting instructions, EXCO papers and papers for the intergovernmental bodies in relation to new and amending legislation.
* Provides advice in response to requests from the Minister's Office, key stakeholders, members of the public and the media on matters related to the operation and interpretation of disability legislation administered by the Department of Communities or relevant for people with disability in Western Australia.
