As a Research Software Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of developing high-quality tools to enhance the usability of cultural and historical data. You will collaborate with researchers from diverse disciplines, contributing to the Community Data Lab Enhanced Analytics project. Your role will involve creating robust, user-friendly software solutions that support cutting-edge research across Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences and Indigenous studies.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Software Development: Design and develop well-structured, documented, and distributable Python packages.
* Front-end Development: Develop accessible, user-friendly interfaces using modern front-end frameworks.
* Data Workflows & Machine Learning: Implement pipelines for OCR, computer vision, and LLM-based text extraction from digitised collections.
* Documentation, Training & Engagement: Produce clear documentation, tutorials, and developer guides.
You may be a great fit if:
You are a skilled software engineer with strong proficiency in Python and JavaScript, experienced in developing innovative tools, and eager to collaborate with diverse teams to enhance digital research capabilities.
You may also:
* Have experience in front-end development using modern JavaScript frameworks.
* Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills for creating documentation and training resources.
* Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams.
* Be familiar with LLM frameworks and back-end web development.
