Our client, a progressive and innovative local government organisation in the Goulburn Murray region, is seeking an experienced Senior Planning & Development Leader to join their team. This is a unique opportunity to shape land use and development across a large regional area while contributing to sustainable growth and vibrant communities.
About the Role
As the Senior Planning & Development Leader, you will provide strategic and statutory planning expertise to support integrated, sustainable development outcomes. You will lead a team of planners and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver high-quality planning solutions across the municipality.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing complex planning applications, scheme amendments, and development projects.
- Providing expert planning advice to staff, management, stakeholders, and the community.
- Representing the organisation at hearings, panels, and relevant forums.
- Leading strategic planning initiatives to guide sustainable growth and land use policy.
- Managing, mentoring, and developing a team of planning professionals.
- Ensuring compliance with planning legislation, regulations, and organisational policies.
- Coordinating public consultation programmes and fostering strong community engagement.
- Delivering departmental objectives, including budgeting, reporting, and service improvements.
Key Selection Criteria
- Degree in Planning or a related field, with 3-5 years' experience in a senior planning role (Local Government experience highly desirable).
- Expert understanding of the Victorian planning system, statutory planning processes, and planning policy development.
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically, analyse complex situations, and develop creative solutions.
- Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to mentor and motivate staff.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Proven ability to deliver outcomes within tight timelines and manage competing priorities.

Essential Requirements
- Current Victorian Driver's Licence.
- National Police Check.
- Degree in Planning or related field.
