Role Overview
The Gardener – Handyperson is responsible for maintaining the school grounds in a safe and tidy condition, ensuring a conducive external learning workplace for students and staff. This includes overseeing the upkeep of turf areas, garden beds, shrubs, trees, and various soft landscapes. The role also involves maintaining hard landscaping features such as courts and paving, marking sports areas, and conducting minor repairs in alignment with departmental policies. The Gardener – Handyperson keeps gardening facilities, equipment, tools, and machinery clean and serviceable, reports faults promptly, and adheres to safe work practices.
Collaboration and Compliance
* Collaborate with the Manager of Corporate Services to develop safe work procedures and conduct risk assessments as needed.
* Ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) legislation and manage hazardous substances, maintaining records in accordance with safety guidelines.
Responsibilities
* Maintain turf areas, garden beds, shrubs, trees, and soft landscape.
* Maintain hard landscaping features: courts, pavings, sports area markings.
* Conduct minor repairs, servicing of horticultural equipment and performing minor maintenance tasks.
* Keep equipment, tools and machinery clean, serviceable and report faults.
* Adhere to safe work practices.
* Collaborate on risk assessments and safe work procedures.
Qualifications and Eligibility
* Valid Working With Children Check.
* Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and a current Screening Clearance Number.
* Australian or New Zealand citizenship, permanent residency or a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of appointment.
* Demonstrated sound communication and interpersonal skills.
* Demonstrated experience in maintaining grounds and gardens, including turf management.
* Demonstrated experience in minor servicing of horticultural/gardening equipment and performing minor repairs and maintenance tasks.
* Knowledge of gardening methods and procedures, including the safe use and storage of gardening equipment, materials and chemicals.
