As a statutory authority, the VFA has the responsibility of managing Victoria's fisheries resources in a coordinated and strategic way to ensure their ongoing sustainability, while supporting the value they deliver to the commercial, recreational, aquaculture and Indigenous fishing sectors. We work with government and stakeholders to optimise the social, cultural and economic benefits of Victoria's fisheries and aquaculture industries, while promoting sustainable and responsible practices.
The VFA supports the development of sustainable recreational and commercial fishing and aquaculture activities in Victoria and delivers recreational fishing and boating infrastructure projects and programs. Senior Investigator

* Salary: $116,413 - $128,631 (Plus Superannuation)
* Ongoing role
* Usual hours of work: Full time (flexibility may be available)
* Usual work location: Attwood (flexibility may be available)

The Role

The Senior Investigator reports to the Principal Investigator, Major Fisheries Crime Unit (MFCU) within the Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA).

You will also assist in providing support and authoritative advice to the Manager MFCU and undertake a key role in the efficient conduct and management of complex and sensitive fisheries investigations:

* Leading investigation cases and working collaboratively with the team and with Fisheries Officers across the state to promote a positive culture.
* Under Case Management create, monitor, and manage investigation case files for efficient and effective service delivery.
* Full utilisation of the breadth of investigations tools under strict statutory and departmental governance and accountability requirements; and
* Operationally search for and seize evidence, arrest and interview offenders and prepare briefs of evidence for prosecution to disrupt and dismantle organised fisheries crime.

The Team

The position of Senior Investigator, Victorian Fisheries Authority forms a part of the Community Engagement and Major Crime branch within the Victorian Fisheries Authority.

The VFA is a statutory authority established to facilitate the effective management of Victoria's fisheries resources in a coordinated and strategic way that ensures their ongoing sustainability. The VFA functions to ensure that the Government, the recreational and commercial fishing sectors, and the Victorian community can share in and obtain the benefits from sustainable fisheries management.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills and qualities:

* A Diploma in Government (Investigations) or qualify within 12 months, or an equivalent qualification that is assessed as meeting the same competency standards
* Promotes organisational goals and demonstrates how to achieve them
* Demonstrated understanding of initial action and contemporary evidence gathering procedures.
* Demonstrated ability to identify and manage law enforcement operational risks
* Demonstrated ability to cooperate and work well with others in pursuit of team goals
