Role Overview
Fulfil targeted activities to improve the delivery of general surgical services at Launceston General Hospital (LGH), and assist in the coordination and training of Surgical Registrars and Resident Medical Officers (RMOs).
Key Responsibilities
* Provide approved general surgical outpatient and inpatient services.
* Participate in after‐hours Registrar/Consultant on‐call rosters.
* Provide leadership and mentoring for surgical registrars and RMOs in training.
* Assist with quality improvement, audit and service improvement within the Department of Surgery.
* Support teaching and research activities where qualifications and interests permit.
* Manage day‐to‐day operations of private and public inpatients and outpatients at the LGH.
* Provide after‐hours emergency cover as scheduled by the Director of Surgery or relevant work unit.

* Broad exposure to general surgery, including operating, emergencies and clinic.
* Strong clinical support with opportunities for teaching and research.
* Welcoming community with natural scenery, local wineries, markets and world‐class outdoor activities.
* Close contact with consultant staff.
* Limited evenings and weekends on‐call.
Appointment Details
* Fixed‐term, full‐time, day‐worker position, up to 76 hours per fortnight.
* Commencing 1 February 2027 and ending 6 February 2028.
* Hours may be negotiated with the successful applicant.
* Selection process may be used to fill similar vacancies for 12 months from publication.
Compensation and Benefits
* Senior Career Medical Officer Level 1‐3 salary: $193,083 – $212,180 per annum (pro‐rata) + 12 % superannuation.
* Salary packaging options include living expenses up to $9,010 and meals and entertainment up to $2,650 per year.
* Continuing Professional Development Allowance: $5,305 per annum (pro‐rata).
* Travel and relocation assistance up to $15,000 for overseas appointees, up to $10,000 for interstate.

Eligibility
* General, provisional or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
* Current Working with Children Registration (where applicable).
