Australian Clinical Labs (ACL) is seeking an experienced and motivated Laboratory Manager to lead our Ballarat Regional Laboratory, based at St John of God Ballarat Hospital. This is a hands‐on leadership role suited to a strong people leader who thrives in a dynamic, service‐driven environment and is passionate about delivering high‐quality pathology services to regional communities.
About the role
* Lead and manage day‐to‐day laboratory operations across Biochemistry, Haematology and Transfusion
* Perform bench duties alongside leadership responsibilities (approx. 3:2 split)
* Oversee a team of approximately 9 FTE staff, including rostering, performance and development
* Ensure delivery of accurate, timely results and achievement of turnaround time KPIs
* Maintain NATA/ISO accreditation compliance, quality systems and audit readiness
* Drive quality improvement, risk management and corrective actions
* Build and maintain strong relationships with hospital stakeholders and regional clients
* Support and grow services across a broad catchment including West Wimmera, Rural Northwest, Timboon, East Wimmera and Central Highlands
* Manage laboratory resources, equipment, consumables and operational performance
* Foster a positive, safety‐focused and high‐performing team culture
What we're looking for
* Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (or equivalent; AIMS‐assessed if overseas trained)
* Minimum 7 years' experience in a multidisciplinary diagnostic pathology laboratory
* Demonstrated leadership and people management experience
* Strong knowledge of quality systems, accreditation standards and regulatory frameworks
* Experience in staff training, competency assessment and interpreting/troubleshooting quality control (internal & external QC)
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
* Ability to manage competing priorities, KPIs and operational pressures
* Experience in a regional or hospital‐based laboratory leadership role
* Experience developing or implementing laboratory improvement initiatives
* Experience managing rosters, KPIs, consumables and operational budgets
