A Genetic Pathology Trainee opportunity is available! This Medical Genomics position provides advanced specialist training in Genetic Pathology (Medical Genomics) through the extensive expertise, technologies, and multidisciplinary resources available within VCGS.
This RCPA-accredited training opportunity offers exposure to all areas of genetic and genomic testing across the VCGS laboratory service. The successful applicant will work closely with a broad network of laboratory scientists, pathologists, and healthcare professionals in a highly collaborative environment.
Training progress will be supported through regular supervision, workplace-based training activities and formal review by RCPA-accredited supervisors, with annual progress reporting to the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA).
What you'll do
* Undertake rotations across VCGS laboratories to develop competency in all areas of Medical Genomics practice in accordance with the RCPA curriculum
* Participate in laboratory training aligned with individual experience, interests, and career goals
* Contribute to teaching, presentations, seminars, case reviews, and professional education activities
* Support the development and education of laboratory staff, medical students, and postgraduate learners
* Participate in internal and external quality assurance programs, audits, and continuous quality improvement activities
* Collaborate with the Quality Manager to maintain compliance with laboratory standards and best practice frameworks
* Engage in collaborative clinical and laboratory research across VCGS, MCRI, The Royal Children's Hospital, and The University of Melbourne
Selection Criteria
* Medical degree recognised by the Medical Board of Australia
* Current registration with, or eligibility for registration with, AHPRA as a medical practitioner
* Previous experience in clinical genetics and/or prior laboratory/ translational research experience is desirable
