Project Overview
Bechtel Global Logistics (BGL) is a Supply Chain Management Function and Center of Excellence that supports transportation strategy, freight estimating, planning, contracting, technical review and execution for all Bechtel projects. BGL's services include direct performance of shipping via asset‐based Logistics Service Providers (LSPs) and oversight of material and equipment suppliers responsible for shipping.
Job Summary
Bechtel is seeking the expression of interest for a Logistics Lead based in Brisbane, Australia. The Logistics Lead will support the BGL Regional Logistics Manager in managing the logistics responsibilities within the Supply Chain organization of multiple global business units, or as a Project Deployed BGL resource when required. The role may support moderate or large‐sized projects and assist in preparation of bid proposals, pre‐FEED and FEED stages to execution, including freight estimates and deliverable documentation. The position is based on the global telework policy, requiring a minimum of three days in the office per week, with business/project travel as necessary.
Major Responsibilities
* Establishes and implements plans, instructions, procedures, and work process improvements to ensure the safe and economical delivery of goods.
* Ensures Logistics Service Provider services are acquired in accordance with Bechtel Corporate Supply Chain Governance.
* Provides cost, transportability, service, and terms and conditions analysis to assist with project proposals, material/equipment purchases and selection of Logistics Service Providers.
* Prepares and presents Logistics Service Provider commercial bid tabs, commitment authorisations, and contract documents for approval by project or customer management.
* Negotiates Logistics Service Provider agreements to maximise Bechtel's commercial and technical interests.
* Develops logistics costs, job hour requirements and reports for project or functional budget formation and management. Prepares and leads logistics studies such as route surveys and site/Service Provider facility visits.
* Oversees Logistics Service Provider performance to ensure services are carried out as contracted and project requirements are satisfied.
* Ensures safety requirements and measures are integrated into all logistics activities.
* Interacts with project and corporate management to review logistics strategies in consideration of cost, risk and schedule assessments.
* Performs domestic and international multi‐leg shipment responsibilities to support project requirements, ensuring safe, timely and economical delivery of goods.
* Ensures entry of shipment tracking data into Transport Management System (TMS) and other functional tools/systems to provide visibility of shipment status.
* Prepares and reviews logistics reports, milestone updates, performance metrics and other status documentation as required.
* Ensures audit and processing of Logistics Service Provider invoices in accordance with project and corporate procedures.
* Identifies transport cost and service alternatives to support materials/equipment purchase decisions and use of Logistics Service Providers.
* Files and resolves Logistics Service Provider claims.
* Networks and connects with senior internal and external personnel in own area of expertise.
Education and Experience Requirements
* Typically requires a bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 10 to 13 years of relevant experience or 14 to 17 years of relevant work experience.
* Home, field and deployed project experience preferred.
* Chain of Responsibility (CoR) / Transport Assurance proficient knowledge, certification preferred.
* Experience with medium to large scale projects highly regarded.
Required Knowledge and Skills
* Proficient in speaking and writing English.
* Knowledge of Australia's importing and exporting formalities and processes.
* Knowledge of domestic and international trade and delivery terms, including Incoterms.
* Knowledge of industry packing, making and shipping requirements.
* Knowledge of and experience in multimodal transport modes – airfreight, sea freight, containerised, LCL, breakbulk, barging and domestic transportation – including oversize/over mass.
* Commercial and contractual acumen.
* Sound judgment, initiative and a proactive approach to problem solving.
* Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.
* Networks and connects with senior internal and external personnel in own area of expertise.
* Proficient in Microsoft Suite of applications.
