The Role
As the Finance & Payroll Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth and accurate operation of our financial and payroll functions. You will be responsible for maintaining financial records, managing end-to-end payroll processes, and supporting the organisation's compliance and reporting requirements.
In this position, you will process invoices and payments, reconcile accounts, and prepare financial reports, ensuring all data is accurate and delivered in a timely manner. You'll also ensure employees are paid correctly and on schedule, while providing support and clear information to both staff and management.

Key Duties include
* Maintain accurate financial records, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll entries and bank reconciliations
* Process invoices, payments, receipts and bills in a timely manner with correct coding and supporting documentation
* Reconcile corporate credit card transactions in line with internal policies
* Support audits by preparing and providing accurate financial and payroll documentation
* Ensure compliance with financial policies, legislation, and funding agreements
* Assist with budget tracking, grant reporting, and job costing activities
* Support month-end and year-end processes, including reconciliations, journals and audit preparation
* Manage end-to-end payroll processing, ensuring all employees are paid accurately and on time
* Maintain payroll system data integrity, ensuring compliance with awards, legislation and company policies
* Calculate and process employee entitlements including leave, overtime/TOIL and allowances
* Process superannuation payments and ensure compliance with legislative requirements (including Payday Super)
* Prepare payroll journals, review account mappings, and reconcile payroll-related accounts
* Act as the primary point of contact for payroll queries, providing clear and timely support to staff
* Work collaboratively with HR to ensure accurate interpretation of awards and employment conditions
* Assist with BAS, FBT and end-of-year payroll reporting, including STP finalisation
* Maintain secure and compliant financial and payroll records in line with statutory requirements
* Monitor compliance deadlines and regulatory updates, implementing changes as required
* Collaborate with internal teams, auditors and external stakeholders to support effective financial operations
* Maintain strict confidentiality of financial and payroll information
* Provide general financial and payroll support as required by management, including occasional travel
About you
You're a reliable and detail-oriented finance professional with a strong commitment to accuracy, integrity, and compliance. You bring a proactive approach to financial and payroll operations, along with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. We're looking for someone who offers both technical expertise and a collaborative mindset, as well as:
* Demonstrated experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or finance, supported by a Diploma or higher qualification (or equivalent)
* Proven ability to manage end-to-end payroll processes accurately and on time
* Proficiency in accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, or similar systems
* Strong understanding of financial regulations, compliance requirements, and reporting standards
* Exceptional attention to detail with a high level of accuracy in financial and payroll processing
* High level of integrity, professionalism, and ability to maintain strict confidentiality
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with respectful and professional interpersonal abilities
* Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively
* A self-motivated and adaptable approach, with the ability to work independently and take initiative
* Reliable, proactive, and solutions-focused, with strong problem-solving capabilities
* Experience working with Indigenous organisations or within the not-for-profit sector (desirable)
* Experience with Employment Hero or similar cloud-based payroll platforms (desirable)
* Understanding of grant and funding financial management (desirable)
* Relevant qualifications in accounting, finance, or business administration (desirable)
* Demonstrated cultural respect and a genuine commitment to working with Aboriginal communities
* Openness to feedback and a commitment to ongoing learning and professional development
