The opportunity
We are looking for a highly driven Geotechnical Engineer bringing 0 to 2 years' experience to join our established Sydney Geotechnical Engineering team of approx. 45 people. You'll be involved in investigations, analysis and construction support, working alongside experienced engineers and scientists in a genuinely supportive, collaborative environment. Expect a combination of field, lab and office work with some travel to regional NSW sites when projects require it.
Key responsibilities
* Fieldwork planning including subcontractor engagement and preparation of documentation contributing to safe, efficient site operations.
* Supervision of test pit excavation and borehole drilling operations, soil/rock logging to AS 1726, sampling, in-situ testing and on-site coordination.
* Scheduling of laboratory testing, collation and interpretation of results with guidance and review.
* Preparation of factual logs, figures and draft report sections, participation in quality reviews to ensure high technical standards.
* Assistance with geotechnical analysis and provision of practical inputs for foundations, retaining structures, slopes, pavements and earthworks.
* Clear communication with internal teams and clients, seeking support and feedback as necessary.
You will experience engineering projects from concept through to construction—not just desktop work—as we support your development into a well‐rounded geotechnical engineer or engineering geologist.
About you
* Tertiary qualification in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology.
* Driver's licence and appetite for fieldwork (metro and occasional regional NSW).
* Clear written and verbal communication with strong time‐management and organisational skills.
* Solid Microsoft Office skills and a willingness to learn industry software and data systems.
* Familiarity with Australian Standards (e.g., AS 1726) and a practical, safety‐first mindset.
