About the role
As the Medical Scientist, you will play an key role in delivering high-quality pathology services within a regional laboratory setting. In this hands-on scientific position, you will contribute to a multi-disciplinary diagnostic service by performing a range of routine testing procedures with accuracy, professionalism and attention to detail. You will be involved in the full testing cycle—problem definition, planning, execution, analysis and reporting—ensuring reliable results that support timely clinical decision making for patients and clinicians across the region.
Working under supervision, you will also have opportunities to participate in the development and adoption of new laboratory techniques and methodologies. You will collaborate with experienced scientists and technical staff, strengthening your professional capability while contributing to continuous quality improvement. This role offers an excellent pathway for emerging scientists to develop their technical skills, build confidence in a supportive team environment and play a meaningful role in providing essential diagnostic services to regional communities.
About You
You are a reliable, motivated and detail-oriented emerging scientist who thrives in a structured laboratory environment. With strong technical capability, a commitment to high-quality diagnostic work and the ability to follow established procedures with accuracy, you are ready to contribute meaningfully to a multidisciplinary regional pathology service. You work well within a team, stay proactive when challenges arise and communicate clearly with staff at all levels.
- Educational/Vocational Qualifications – You must meet NPAAC requirements for a medical scientist, holding an AQF7 degree with >70% pathology-relevant subjects, an equivalent overseas qualification recognised by AIMS, or an associate qualification awarded prior to 1 December 1973.
- Personal Abilities/Aptitudes/Skills – Ability to follow routine procedures with limited supervision; strong scientific and technical skills for diagnostic testing; effective teamwork; excellent time management and prioritisation; proactive approach to problem-solving; punctuality; clear oral and written communication; ability to troubleshoot equipment; commitment to confidentiality, customer service and high-quality laboratory work.
- Experience – Experience using analytical laboratory equipment; experience with laboratory computing, data retrieval and processing; and general experience in a pathology laboratory environment.
- Knowledge – Knowledge of laboratory principles and concepts; sound understanding of scientific practice; and familiarity with quality procedures.
