Ambulance Tasmania's Communications Centre is a critical component of the Department of Health, supporting the delivery of timely, safe and effective emergency and non-emergency patient transport services across the state. The Communications Centre operates as a statewide service, coordinating emergency call receipt, dispatch and radio communications for Ambulance Tasmania. Working in close partnership with clinical operations, emergency services, hospitals, government agencies and service providers, the team ensures seamless coordination of emergency response and patient transport services. As part of the Department of Health, the Communications Centre contributes to improved health outcomes for the Tasmanian community through collaboration, innovation, and a strong focus on safety, resilience and continuous improvement.

Role

The Director – Communications Centre is responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of Ambulance Tasmania's Communications Centre and radio communications infrastructure. The role ensures the effective delivery of emergency and non‐emergency transport communications services while driving system improvements, operational resilience and service excellence across the state.

Key Duties
* Leading and managing the day‐to‐day operations of the Communications Centre, including emergency and non‐emergency transport call receipt and dispatch services.
* Providing strategic advice and leadership to support the implementation of contemporary systems, including the GRN Radio System, and driving continuous improvement across communications and dispatch functions.
* Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal stakeholders, emergency services, government agencies and service providers to ensure coordinated and effective service delivery.
You Will Need
* Demonstrated senior leadership and change management skills, including the ability to implement strategic direction, lead system improvements and manage complex operational environments.
* High‐level communication, negotiation and relationship‐building skills, with the capacity to work collaboratively across emergency services, government agencies and service providers.
* Relevant qualifications and experience in ambulance operations and communications, including registration with the Paramedicine Board of Australia and eligibility to meet all essential registration and licensing requirements.
Details of appointment

Fixed term, full time, day worker (with on‐call) position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible for approximately 36 months. The hours are negotiable with the successful applicant. For a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies. The role is based in Southern Tasmania.

Salary

$178,112 per annum plus a 12% employer superannuation contribution. Salary range is in accordance with Ambulance Tasmania Agreement 2022. Salary packaging includes living expenses up to $9,010 and meal entertainment up to $2,650 per FBT year, with other eligible benefits.

Allowances
* Professional Development Allowance up to $1,000 per annum.
* Remote and Rural allowance: 8% of base salary for employees at Miena, Queenstown, Strahan or Zeehan.
* Remote and Rural allowance: 4% of base salary for employees at Beaconsfield, Bicheno, Bridport, Bruny Island, Campbell Town, Deloraine, George Town, Nubeena, Oatlands, Ouse, Scamander, Scottsdale, Smithton, Swansea, St Helens or Triabunna.

Eligibility
* Registered with the Paramedicine Board of Australia.
* Holds a Bachelor of Paramedic Science or other relevant qualification approved by the Service and relevant work experience with an additional qualification in management or equivalent.
* Current driver's licence.
* Registration/licences must remain current and valid at all times while employed. The employee is responsible for ensuring all registrations remain current and to advise the Employer if circumstances change.
Desirable
* Management qualifications or substantial managerial experience at senior manager or executive level.
* Significant experience in ambulance operations with a focus on the emergency services communication function.
Position Features
* Frequent communication with organisations and people outside the Department and intra‐state and interstate travel is required.
