We're partnering with a market-leading Australian technology company that powers mission-critical alarm signalling and life-safety infrastructure across Australia and the UK.
Their platforms support over 300,000 connected devices and are responsible for dispatching emergency services and life-safety alarms in real time. Reliability, uptime and operational excellence genuinely matter here.
They're hiring a Senior Systems Engineer / Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join their Sydney-based operations team.
This is a deeply hands‐on infrastructure role for someone who enjoys being the technical lead during high-priority incidents, solving complex infrastructure and networking problems directly, and owning critical production systems end‐to‐end.
This is not a coordination or vendor‐management role. They need someone who does the doing.
What you'll work on
Mission-critical infrastructure operations
* Maintain and support critical infrastructure across multiple data centres and production environments operating 24/7
* Support the infrastructure underpinning life‐safety alarm signalling and private communications networks
* Take ownership of P1 incidents, troubleshooting and resolving issues directly across infrastructure, networking and systems layers
* Support full operational coverage across the company's broader DC footprint, not just local sites
Deep networking & connectivity
* Configure, troubleshoot and maintain complex networking environments
* Work with technologies including BGP, OSPF, VLANs, IPSec VPNs, MC‐LAG, cellular failover and enterprise switching
* Support private networks, WAN connectivity, firewalling and high‐availability network design
* Work directly with telcos and vendor TAC engineers during troubleshooting and incident resolution
Systems, virtualization & Linux
* Operate and maintain VMware and Hyper‐V environments
* Support Windows Server and Linux infrastructure in production environments
* Work confidently from the Linux command line, including troubleshooting legacy systems with limited documentation
* Manage physical infrastructure including servers, storage, virtualisation hosts and DC hardware
Monitoring, resilience & operational improvement
* Improve monitoring, alerting and operational visibility across critical systemsContribute to backup, disaster recovery and resilience initiatives
* Use PowerShell and scripting to automate operational tasks and reduce manual overhead
* Document environments, operational procedures and recovery processes
What we're looking for
Core requirements
* Strong hands‐on infrastructure engineering background in complex production environments
* Deep networking capability across routing, switching, VPNs and firewalls
* Experience troubleshooting and resolving real production incidents directly
* Experience with VMware and/or Hyper‐V
* Comfortable working across physical infrastructure, servers, networking and virtualisation
* Ability to explain technical concepts clearly and practically
Highly relevant backgrounds
* Senior MSP engineers running multiple client environments directly
* Emergency services or critical communications infrastructure
* Healthcare or financial services infrastructure environments
* Mission‐critical production systems
Tech environment
* Networking: BGP, OSPF, VLANs, IPSec, MC‐LAG, FortiGate, WAN connectivity
* Virtualisation: VMware vSphere, ESXi, Hyper‐V
* OS: Linux and Windows Server
* Infrastructure: HPE, Dell, enterprise server and storage environments
* DCIM & monitoring: NetBox and infrastructure monitoring platforms
