Role
The classroom teacher classification comprises two salary ranges – Range 1 and Range 2. The primary focus of the classroom teacher is on the planning, preparation and teaching of programs to achieve specific student outcomes. The classroom teacher engages in critical reflection and inquiry in order to improve knowledge and skills to effectively engage students and improve their learning.
As the classroom teacher gains experience, their contribution to the school program beyond the classroom increases. All classroom teachers may be required to undertake other duties in addition to their rostered teaching duties provided the responsibility is appropriate to the salary range, qualifications, training and experience of the teacher.
Classroom teacher Range 2
Range 2 classroom teachers play a significant role in assisting the school to improve student performance and educational outcomes determined by the school strategic plan and state-wide priorities and contributing to the development and implementation of school policies and priorities. A critical component of this work will focus on increasing the knowledge base of staff within their school about student learning and high quality instruction to assist their school to define quality teacher practice.
Range 2 classroom teachers will be expected to:
* Have the content knowledge and pedagogical practice to meet the diverse needs of all students
* Model exemplary classroom practice and mentor/coach other teachers in the school to engage in critical reflection of their practice and to support staff to expand their capacity
* Provide expert advice about the content, processes and strategies that will shape individual and school professional learning
* Supervise and train one or more student teachers
* Assist staff to use student data to inform teaching approaches that enable targets related to improving student learning outcomes to be achieved
Classroom teacher Range 1
The primary focus of the Range 1 classroom teacher is on further developing skills and competencies to become an effective classroom practitioner with structured support and guidance from teachers at higher levels and the planning, preparation and teaching of programs to achieve specific student outcomes. These teachers teach a range of students/classes and are accountable for the effective delivery of their programs. Range 1 classroom teachers are skilled teachers who operate under general direction within clear guidelines following established work practices and documented priorities and may have responsibility for the supervision and training of one or more student teachers.
At Range 1, teachers participate in the development of school policies and programs and assist in the implementation of school priorities. The focus of a Range 1 classroom teacher is on classroom management, subject content and teaching practice. New entrants to the teaching profession in their initial teaching years receive structured support, mentoring and guidance from teachers at higher levels.
Under guidance, new entrants to the teaching profession will plan and teach student groups in one or more subjects and are expected to participate in induction programs and other professional learning activities that are designed to ensure the integration of curriculum, assessment and pedagogy across the school. Teachers at Range 1 are responsible for teaching their own classes and may also assist and participate in policy development, project teams and the organisation of co-curricular activities.
Responsibilities
Student Health Promotions
* Develop Student Medical/Health Support Plans in conjunction with student families as directed by relevant DET Policies, including liaising with care teams (e.g. GPs, RCH) as required
* Communicate the medical needs of students with classroom teachers, and Year Level Coordinators (YLCs) and other staff, as appropriate, prior to special events (e.g. camps, excursions) for required adjustments and non-compliant medical/health support plans
* At the direction of AP/SAP be prepared to attend events that involve a high risk of injury for students with complex needs
* Administrative duties to comply with recording and storing of student information
* Work collaboratively with the Student Engagement and Wellbeing Team (SEWT) to advise on professional learning related to School-wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) from a health lens
* Work collaboratively with the year level teams in the creation of student resources on health-related issues (e.g. use of drugs and alcohol, vaping, sexual education) for implementation in the homegroup curriculum
* Lead parent information sessions on key health areas, as needed
* Support students who are seeing an external medical practitioner in relation to their medical health with individual support sessions
* Maintain connections with external support agencies in relation to a student's medical health
* Provide 1:1 individual education/support for areas of health concern highlighted by SEWT/YLCs/AP
* Refer Tier 3 students and/or students who need additional wellbeing support to Student Wellbeing Coordinator (SWC)/Mental Health Practitioner (MHP)
* When necessary, work with YLCs, SWC, and MHP to support attendance strategies for students with health-related barriers including engaging with external support where necessary to promote regular attendance
* Develop and review Student Safety Plans as required
* Assist with complex student medical needs, as required
* Be visible and approachable by staff and students during school hours
* Coordinate the Pasco Campus Breakfast Club Program with the support of the Student Leaders, including the ordering of food and supplies via Woolworths and Food Bank and provide training to breakfast club volunteers
* Attend Year Level Assemblies to promote community health services
* Maintain Community Health Service displays at both campuses
* Coordinate the Immunisation Program for Year 7 and 10 students while adhering to DET guidelines, contractuals and communicating the DET Schools Privacy Policy
* Assist the Curriculum Leader with VCAA Special Provisions for health related issues, as required
Staff Training & Development
* Provide training to staff on health topics as required
* Run professional learning sessions including termly PL week sessions for staff linked to health and the impact on learning
* Oversee ASCIA Anaphylaxis e-training and registration for all newly appointed staff without valid training with the support of the Strategic Assistant Principal (SAP) including maintaining verifiers qualification to correctly verify staff use of autoinjector devices within 30 days of eTraining
* Oversee all required staff first aid training by referring to the Department's Mandatory Staff Training guidance including other staff first aid training identified by the Principal with the support of the SAP
* Coordinate and promote annual staff flu shots ensuring compliance arrangements are met for onsite providers
* Maintain the WHS Staff Training Register including ensuring compliance from all staff in accordance to the DET Mandatory Training Register. This includes first aid training, OH&S, excursion LearnED, etc.
* Liaise with Campus Principals and/or relevant Principals to ensure staff member training compliance
Administration
* Undertake all relevant administration duties, including accurate documentation of case notes and program outcomes
* Complete record keeping on school system (Compass) when a student engages for health advice/support
* Undertake administration duties associated with small group work activities
* Student filing system to be updated each year and archiving procedures to be in line with relevant policies
* Ensure student meetings are communicated to the Attendance Officers
* Ensure all engaged providers/allied health workers meet the OH&S compliance requirements prior to attending onsite
* Ensure all programs and interventions align with Departmental frameworks and school strategic priorities
* Attend all relevant professional development sessions, staff meetings and other events as required throughout the year
Other Duties
* As directed by Business Manager and College Principal
Who May Apply
Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.
Qualification in health promotion, public health, nutrition, or similar or relevant experience in the field highly regarded

Qualification Requirements
To be eligible for employment, transfer or promotion in the principal or teacher class:
* The person must have provisional or full registration approved by the Victorian Institute of Teaching; and
* If the person completed an Australian postgraduate level initial teaching program or course of study on or after 1 January 2024, they must demonstrate that they have satisfactorily completed a postgraduate level accredited initial teacher education program that has been accredited by an Australian State or Territory Teacher Regulatory Authority as satisfying the requirements of the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership Accreditation of initial teacher education programs in Australia: Standards and Procedures
* A person who graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education (ITE) program after 1 July 2016 must also demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements
