Classification: Registered Psychiatric Nurse RPN 4 Year 1-3 (NP75-NP77) or Allied Health Equivalent

On 1 January 2026 five health services (Kooweerup Regional Health Service, Peninsula Health, Alfred Health, Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service) will come together to create Bayside Health. A newly merged health service with more than 22,000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians.

The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives. The merger will also strengthen our workforce, providing recent training, education, and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1 January 2026, all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.

The Team & Role

The MHAOD Crisis Hub ensures that individuals are seen in a timely manner, provides high quality follow up and provides a positive experience for individuals and families.

The core components of the MHAOD Crisis Hub include:

- Mental Health and AOD Consultation Liaison Service in the Emergency Department
- A short stay unit (five beds) within the ED for patients who require stabilisation and intensive support for a period of time that is clinically appropriate.
- Assertive outreach team for up to 28 days following discharge.

The grade 4 position will work predominantly within the Assertive Outreach Team; however, they may be required to work across all areas of the MHAOD Crisis Hub.

Following assessment, the clinician will make necessary recommendations and referrals for the most appropriate treatment options. The clinician will work competently within their scope of practice to deliver safe, evidence based person centred care to achieve optimal health outcomes.

Requirements:

- Qualified Registered Nurse, Social Worker, OT or Clinical Psychologist with relevant registration. RPN only, post graduate qualification in mental health or completion of a specialist undergraduate psychiatric / mental health-nursing program.
- Demonstrated commitment to delivering high quality outcomes for consumers.
- Demonstrated working knowledge and understanding of the Victorian Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022, the National Standards for Mental Health Services 2010, the National Standards for the Mental Health Workforce 2002 and the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards including EQuIP,
- Communicates well with and relates to consumers from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds.
- Takes responsibility for own actions and is proactive and self-starting.
- Extensive experience in the mental health field including acute inpatient services and/or community mental health care.
- Proven ability in the management of clients with a major mental illness and in the techniques of assessment, crisis intervention, counselling and psychosocial rehabilitation.
