We are looking for a qualified Cyber Security Specialist to join our underwriting team, which brings together the Casualty and Cyber lines of business.

As a Senior Cyber Consultant, you will serve as a technical expert supporting our underwriting teams, clients, and the broader cyber re‐insurance strategy. Your responsibilities will span risk assessment, methodology development, incident response, advisory services, and underwriting – all with the aim of enhancing the quality, resilience, and scalability of our cyber underwriting approach.

Our Cyber team is a leading provider of cyber re‐insurance solutions and oversees markets across Australia, New Zealand, Greater China and Africa. We develop and drive cyber re‐insurance solutions across commercial and personal lines, covering both portfolio‐based and single‐risk business, while contributing to Munich Re's global cyber ambitions. Our goal is to shape the future of cyber insurance in these markets and further reinforce Munich Re's position as a trusted, forward‐thinking partner for our clients.

Based in Sydney, you will collaborate closely with underwriters across multiple locations, markets and our very own internal global cyber expert community. You will contribute to the strategic growth of our cyber re‐insurance portfolio and strengthen our market position.

Your Role
* Conduct in‐depth assessments of diverse cyber and IT‐related risks across industries, supported by independent research on emerging technologies, threat landscapes, and market developments. Apply these insights to inform underwriting decisions and promote them as subject‐matter‐expert services to our key business partners, ensuring alignment with end‐customer needs, market trends and underwriting guidelines.
* Deliver high‐quality cyber underwriting by effectively translating complex risk assessment outcomes into actionable underwriting recommendations, e.g. appropriate (re)insurance terms and conditions, to ensure profitable and sustainable business while maintaining compliance with internal underwriting guidelines.
* Identify, evaluate and benchmark the effectiveness of security controls against evolving threats, attack vectors and mitigation strategies.
* Continuously enhance our cyber risk assessment methodologies, frameworks and questionnaires.
* Provide analytical support on cyber coverage language and its alignment with current threat trends, loss scenarios and portfolio exposures.
* Collaborate with Munich Re's global cyber experts and cross‐functional teams to deliver cutting‐edge underwriting expertise and drive local partner growth.
* Support internal training and knowledge‐sharing initiatives to build cyber underwriting capabilities across the region.
* Deliver cyber security guidance, training and strategic advice to both internal stakeholders and external clients.
* Represent Munich Re at industry events and conferences; conduct trend scouting and publish topic papers on emerging threats and technologies.
* Evaluate emerging solutions such as inside‐out scanning and open‐source threat intelligence to support data‐driven underwriting practices.
Your Profile
* Degree in IT Security, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related technical field, preferably complemented by relevant certifications (e.g. CISSP, CISA, ISO 27001 Lead Auditor).
* Familiarity with major cyber risk frameworks (e.g. NIST CSF, MITRE ATT&CK, ISO 27001) and regulatory requirements relevant to cyber insurance across different regions (e.g. GDPR, DORA, APRA CPS 234) with multiple years of experience in security consulting, cyber risk management, cyber insurance or cyber incident response.
* Understanding of Cloud Security is a strong plus.
* Ability to contextualize cyber threats by region and industry, factoring in geopolitical risk, regional regulation and local IT maturity and to translate threat intelligence into insurance‐relevant impact scenarios (e.g. ransomware affecting supply chains, cloud provider outages, mass exploitation events) to support underwriting and portfolio steering.
* Minimum 5 years of client‐facing experience, with a strong client‐centric approach to business development.
* Proven ability for proactive self‐learning and adaptability to new technologies and emerging risks, combined with hands‐on experience in driving innovation and product development.
* Strong teamwork skills and knowledge‐sharing mindset.
* Willingness to travel internationally.
* Fluent in both spoken and written business English and Mandarin.
