Position Overview
The Cook will be responsible for preparing and cooking menu items in accordance with established recipes and food safety standards. The successful candidate will work as part of a team in a commercial kitchen to ensure meals are prepared efficiently, safely, and to a consistently high standard.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare, season, and cook a variety of dishes according to recipes and menu requirements.
* Ensure all food is prepared and presented in accordance with established standards for quality, taste, and portion control.
* Assist with food preparation tasks such as washing, peeling, cutting, and marinating ingredients.
* Operate kitchen equipment including grills, ovens, fryers, and other cooking appliances safely and efficiently.
* Monitor cooking times and temperatures to ensure food is cooked safely and consistently.
* Portion and plate meals according to service requirements.
* Store food in temperature-controlled facilities and ensure proper food handling procedures are followed.
* Maintain cleanliness and organisation of kitchen work areas, equipment, and storage areas.
* Comply with all food safety, health, and workplace safety regulations.
* Assist with receiving and storing deliveries of food supplies.
* Monitor stock levels and inform management when supplies need replenishment.
* Work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
Skills and Experience
* Relevant qualification in Commercial Cookery (Certificate III or IV), or equivalent.
* Alternatively, at least 2 years of relevant work experience as a Cook.
* Experience working in a commercial kitchen environment.
* Knowledge of food preparation techniques and food safety standards.
* Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
* Good communication and teamwork skills.
* Reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings.
