Job Title: Senior Monitoring Officer - Tasmanian National Preventive Mechanism



Role Overview:



The Senior Monitoring Officer will play a key role in ensuring proactive oversight through regular visits and examinations, educational initiatives, and advisory services to organisations and facilities where children and young people are or may be deprived of their liberty.

The Office of the Ombudsman and Health Complaints Commissioner supports reasonable adjustment requests in any stage of the assessment process to remove barriers and facilitate full participation in all aspects of employment for applicants with disability.



Key Responsibilities:




* Organise, plan, and undertake visit and examination activities to places where children and young people are deprived of their liberty, employing project management and investigation methodologies;

* Contribute to reporting;

* Prepare high-level, evidence-based advice, support, and guidance to organisations related to the Tasmanian NPM's published expectations;

* Support advisory efforts for relevant authorities and conduct activities, including meetings, to educate and raise awareness about the Tasmanian NPM expectations regarding the treatment of children and young people deprived of their liberty;

* Proactively follow up on relevant practice improvement activities across organisations and contribute to high-level, authoritative advice for the relevant authority or their delegate;

* Support the broader team within the Office by addressing general queries and providing timely guidance to organisations on matters concerning children, young people, and the prevention of torture and ill-treatment;

* Develop and maintain trusting and collaborative working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders;

* Undertake other duties not specifically mentioned in this document that are within the capacity, qualifications and experience normally expected from persons occupying positions at this classification level.



Essential Qualifications and Skills:


* Current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (Registration Status – Employment)

* Pre-employment Checks:


o Arson and fire setting, violent crimes and crimes against the person, sex-related offences, drug and alcohol related offences, crimes involving dishonesty, deception and/or conspiracy, making false declarations, malicious damage and destruction to property, serious traffic offences, crimes against public order or relating to the Administration of Law and Justice, Executive or the Legislative Power;

o Disciplinary action in previous employment;

o Experience working with children and young people;

o Experience conducting investigations in complex environments.
