Are you experienced in Critical Infrastructure Commissioning Processes? Amazon Data Center Commissioning (ACx) is seeking a dynamic Commissioning Engineer (CxE) to support the delivery of AWS Substations and Data Centers. As a Data Center Commissioning Engineer, you will be part of a highly creative, efficient team tackling fascinating problems, building, retrofitting, and improving AWS-owned critical infrastructures within APJC and globally. You will evaluate and manage expectations of construction and equipment quality in accordance with engineering design specifications, working backwards from customer needs and delivering with customer satisfaction.
Key responsibilities
- Oversight and coordination of the multi-discipline work related to pre-commissioning and commissioning of Amazon critical infrastructure construction and special projects.
- Manage and support commissioning vendors, contractors, and teams involved in commissioning of high, medium, and low voltage power systems, Generators, UPS, HVAC, Chilled Water, BMS, and EPMS systems.
- Provide cross-disciplinary input into scheduling, design, planning of project execution, and innovation projects.
- Review multi-discipline integrated systems testing and commissioning documents for compliance with basis of design, project specifications, and standards.
Responsibilities
- In this role, you will have APJC and global presence, including travel to sites in-country, APJC, and globally up to 20% of the time.
- Ensure commissioning procedures follow appropriate safety practices, policies, and procedures; participate in safety programs; audit commissioning activities for environmental, quality, and safety compliance.
- Report to the ACx Regional Manager and ensure test documents are created in accordance with commissioning requirements.
- Provide weekly reporting of commissioning progress and metrics for assigned projects.
- Work in a high-velocity environment on multiple strategic initiatives, continuous improvement projects, and delivery under tight deadlines and prescribed metrics.
Systems Analysis
- Understand design concepts by reviewing mechanical and electrical construction documentation, drawings, specifications, vendor submittals, and sequences of operations.
- Provide recommendations on design, equipment selection, pre-functional checklists, startup and functional test scripts, maintainability, construct-ability, and commission-ability.
- Review documentation for compliance with Amazon standards, industry standards, and design specifications.
- Assess capability of commissioned systems to match design and identify opportunities for improvement.
Systems Validation
- Verify system performance, establish acceptance criteria, review completed reports, and perform verification and validation.
- Validate as-built documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Communicate commissioning issues and questions through proper channels in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with internal and external teams to ensure commissioning scope is thorough.
- Support commissioning audits.
Project Management
- Manage and execute commissioning of critical infrastructure to validate installation, operation, and performance of mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
- Serve as the point of contact for commissioning vendor escalations; develop mitigation plans to unblock obstacles.
- Manage vendors via audits of deliverables and set expectations in line with Amazon requirements.
- Develop project schedules and plans for deliveries, strategic initiatives, and innovation projects.
- Represent ACx in project coordination meetings with external vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
- Maintain quality of commissioning documentation and manage concurrent projects across regions and time zones.
Additional role requirements
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% (typical travel 10%).
- Ability to work longer than eight hours, including nights and weekends if required.
- Work in a construction environment with PPE; troubleshooting with handheld equipment.
- Valid driver’s license and own vehicle due to site locations.

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
- Field experience with certification in Electrical, Controls, or Mechanical Systems
- Experience in commissioning
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing and executing test procedures for mechanical or electrical systems based on design intent and approved equipment submissions
- 3+ years’ experience in Commissioning; Electrical Design; Construction Project Management; Control System installation or maintenance
- Ability to read and understand construction documents (design drawings, control diagrams, specifications)
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
